well i just came up with a idea that i think should be added. Simple. some kits would be issued with a shovel. There would be a area marked off with some sorta of flag or something. You take the shovel and start digging by the flag. After about 5 seconds a small foxhole apears big enough to put 2 people inside for some cover. The spots for digging would be preplaced by map makers and would simply be a way to get some cover in open desert terrian or fields.

Engine-limitation.

You can't "dig" in the original ground, it's okay to build on it (see PR for example), but not to edit the original terrain.

Foxholes would be cool, but Ted is absolutely right. What could be possible though is making them as a model, like the trenches. However, the only way I could think of how to get in/out a small, deep foxhole would be making it a "seat", so you press e to enter and exit. However, IIRC correctly, many "vehicles" makes the engine lag...

True, but I thought the devs had a bit of compensation for that... My idea would be to create a destructable static that looked like earth in certain spots. When "blown up" with a shovel, the static revealed a hole. Of course, explosions could also create these foxholes, making a cratered looking battlefield. :naughty:

This is one thing I wish a Python coder would work on, cause honestly only if a gun could modify the Heightmap in the middle of the game.

You mean like this (check the video): Celestial Impact PC game - Mod DB That gun modifies the heightmap in game...

sory if i made it unclear. I ment a spot marked by a small flag that close to the mine marker flag that if u used the shovel by u could dig a hole. Much like in PR and placable foxholes but there statics placed by the mapper and you cannot place the foxholes.

Basically he means that the heightmap has a large indentation, and there is a static model placed in that hole that resembles the ground around it, except for a fla or marking indicating that a foxhole can be "dug" there. As has been said, the hole would be created from "destroying" part of the static model and openeing the part covering the hole, which existed underground the whole time. I has some potential as an idea, but is limited in that you will not be able to customize where you place your defensive position. You will be allowed some freedom and gain a bit of immersion, but it really doesnt make much difference in the long run. Having the foxholes already "dug" would have the same gameplay impact, except you wont have to pause for a moment to "dig" them.

Foxholes, honestly, were in prepared positions, it wasn't something you could just dig in 5 minutes, it takes about an hour or two to dig a 2 man foxhole with 2 men working on it, and then its just a ditch. Also, it was normally done on a company level. So better to just have static foxholes, much like the trenches ingame, placed in a good deep formation at defending positions.
