hi everyone... i have a question: i got no soundcard in my PC but just a c-media audio chip onboard. now does it bring performance improvement in gaming with a soundcard? should i buy one? i'm thinking of a 5.1 system with a audigy 2 ZS. does that make my PC going faster in games? or does it just make the sound quality better? _______________________ AMD 1800+ 120 GB / 640MB DDR RADEON 9800PRO

You will get better system performance if you have a separate soundcard in the PCI slot rather than onboard sound, which uses CPU time etc

My Audigy 2 zs Platinum should be getting here tomorrow. I'm using a Philips 5.1 right now, and I have definate improvement than using the onboard sound with that card, and it's a piece of crap! P.S. - i love the 5.1 when playing my UT04. {RA}4life baby.

the soundcard will take some processing away from the CPU. Enough to notice a performance gain in the game in general, probably not, but better cound quality yes. I tink you will enjoy the upgrade. i did.

Just remember that once you add the Audigy, you must go into BIOS and disable the onboard sound. This'll open up the channels so there is no conflicts.

ok i bought an audigy 2 zs and connected it... sound really sounds better with it, and the gamesound is pretty cool with EAX i'm really glad i did it!!:fistpunch: one small prob: when i play call of duty it sounds excellent in singleplayer mode, semms like i get a performance boost. but when i play online and i get in contact with a few enemies and all are shootin it begins to lag ... ... very low FPS...:notworking: what could it be? any suggestions?

even a high spec soundcard has limitations, when going online your sound card has to calculate soundstreams from everyn else. the more streams there are to calculate the more lag you experiance, you can go into setting in the game and try turning some options either down or off, or go into the soundcard configs and force smaller no. of streams simultaneosly. i have an audigy 2 ill try to fing the setting and get back to you. another thing, it may just be COD. try playing all the games you have and see how they run.
