We already had a small post about this at bug forums... The suggestion is to make every single vehicle invisble at minimap. Empty and manned tanks would be invisble, friendly soldiers would be invisble (well ofcourse enemies too). Sure, this would increase the TKs at least for a while but now people would have to learn to be sure of where and whom to fire. This would add more stealth and tactics to the game and decrease the arcade feeling even more. It would also require and force teams to communicate more. If possible this could be added as "server choice". The server admins would decide whether to hide or show the units. Also whether to hide all the units or to show the units only REALLY near you could be thought. Read the previous posts/conversation here: http://www.gamingforums.com/showthread.php?t=159766
It is possible to remove all icons from the minimap. You cannot remove only team icons and leave unmanned icons. I very much doubt it would be possible to make this a server side option.
To fix the stupid arcadish bullshit dice made just to remove *all* icons would go along with some problems.
As you said, TKwould improve. Well it is true but thats more the matter with Team nametags at really close range. (I shot at about 5 friendly ppl when joining a server with really close tags.)
I totally agree that unmanned vehicles or at least the mobile ones from the map since this totally destroys covert operations with light vehicle support.
But at least visible and known of friendly units especially vehicles should still appear on the map and communication indicators!

Infantry would still be visible, right? Most tks apply to infantry anyway, so it wouldn't even increase that problem very much. However, this would really boost realism in FH. Tankers and pilots use the minimap to avoid ambushes and other dangers which they just wouldn't know about otherwise, it is like an exploit that can be removed from the game. For tanks it would become more important to stick together, so that everyone has an idea about the formation he is in. And pilots get less effective because they have to check first before they shoot, so tankers don't have to complain all the time about them :)
I would wholeheartedly welcome it, and if I TK'd a stolen enemy vehicle, I could say "tough luck, drive your own stuff next time" :D Really, the minimap only helps on desert maps. On other maps, if you are zoomed in enough to pick out the enemy from two similar tanks close to each other, you are not zoomed out far enough to see units at longer ranges, and vice versa. It would be nice to be able to fire at an enemy tank without checking the minimap.
I'd sooner delete all the neutral units from the mini-map. So people can't see a unit disappear and think: Hey, there an enemy there, let's already start shooting at it...

Well, that's what we are talking about. A sideeffect would be that you can't see the vehicles of your own team either.
I just came from a server where i TKed a traktor with my Stuka. While diving down, i glanced on the minimap, and there was no icon, so i dropped the bomb....
Removing icons from single-seat vehicles is a bad idea, cause they are usually that ones that we shoot the fastest (cause they are usually faster and drive away fast). Tanks, on the other hand could survive with this option, cause they can take more beating, and thus there is more time to identify them.
And don't compare it to RL saying that you don't have a minimap in RL. In RL, you don't have your army scattered around and in between the enemy's army. You have clearly defined battlefronts, and anything on the enemy battlefront is considered enemy.
And why would anyone suggest to increase tag distance? That is the most unrealistic feature (not minimap).

..why would you bomb a tractor?
lukav..why would you bomb a tractor?
Farmer John was heading for a spawnpoint, or perhaps he was flanking friendly panzers, tractors are a priority target! But i would like to see this, tanks look very much the same from a distance, so a pilot would check his target (by a flyover) before he can bomb it.. Now all a pilot has to do is see "something" look on the minimap, check if its a friendly or not and then bomb away. >checking a target= realistic, right? As for infantry, tank and other ground combat, this would keep people from camping in enemy bases. Because they are likely to be shot by friendly's It would enourage people to stick with their teammates instead of running off for some rambo mission. Then to be shot by a teammate because he was on the wrong side of the front line. I would like to see how this would work out, of course TK's will increase for a while but people will adapt, the minimap is not realistic, granted its just a game. But i believe in the end removing all icons will be a better thing. Hot shot pilots will also have to be carefull with where they fly offensively, what i often notice is that some pilots cant resist doing fly overs, going low as if they are going to bomb. This stupid behavior will deminish as well.. If the devs can take the silly uniform change when carrying an enemy weapon it will work even better. Removing the minimap icons is not very noob friendly, but if you cant bring up the patience to id a target. You shouldnt be playing FH.
