I think it's possible to show the coordinates when calling for support. Like this calling for airstrikes wouldn't suddenly impossible, it would just be more difficult. What is more, I know some multiplayer-games with a lot of more teamwork than BF which do not have a minimap. Difficult to say what exactly will happen if you try this, but why not try it out on one map, or change one game-mode which isn't used anyway so that it uses this idea?
McGibs: On most servers everyone IS playing like a lonewolf. This only really changes if people use teamspeak IMHO.
what is this teamwork you speak of being ruined? most of the time public players are too stupid, too killwhorish, or just dont understand the concept of teamplay so they just run in a mass towards the enemy in the same general area because thats just the appropriate thing to do. however clan matches wont really be affected by this because theyre too smart, have practiced what their player-specific job is, and know the map like the back of their hands
besides, if you need air support, you can still look at the minimap, it shows what grid square your in. taking time to type can simulate taking out radio, turning it on, and signaling the plane?
maybe a closed beta test should be in order, to test this concept
:agreed and your icon should still flash even though all units are invisable, just for the sake of gameplay.
Here is an idea:
Make only the soldies/vehicles within visual range be visible on the minimap. With BF, you cant see as well as IRL. Adding this would change that around a bit.
That might be difficult/impossible to code.
Its already done for unmanned vehicles.
You're right, I didn't think about that. But I guess it doesn't take into account that the actual line of sight is a bit different from a radius you just set on that map. Or maybe I just don't play enough FH :)
