Is the Dev team considering adding some alternatives for the commander? I got to thinking about it the other day, 50% of the time a team will not have a commander because, well, they dont want to be tied down to a desk, they want action. Taking in the fact that most players dont take the commander roll seriously, have you thought about implementing a more up front option for the commander roll? Perhaps a light tank with the ability to access commander controls? Monty commanded from the top of a Grant, Rommel from a PZ3 (could just be publicity photos, i dont know for sure). I know a lot of you are thinking "strike at karkand" but it would be a lot more fun in my opinion if I were able to tank AND give commander advice, considering a tank will have a better view of the battlefield then a desk does. Also, the secondary seat on the Beaufighter as well as the spotter planes should have access to command options. I know you Dev's have probably talked this out to death over limiting the roll of the commander but realistically the commander is on the field surveying the battlefield, giving orders to men, who relay those orders to the radiomen, they weren't radiomen themselves. Perhaps im looking to much into this, but man, it would be cool. the way it is now is perfectly acceptable, but given that a lot of players dont really understand the concept of the commander and squadleaders etc, i just thought it would be fun to give the commander a more up front roll, rather then just a desk humper.

there are commander tanks i think... not publicity photos

that would encourage the team to use their commander arty.... especially people don't like spending time sitting in a desk and just wait for artillery to reload.

i agree with commander in tank, but not... not... planes...

If the commander can issue orders from a tank then is almost like a vanilla commander, so no. We rehauled totally the work of the commander in this game, to avoid that style of "rambo" commander, fighting, droping stuff over his enemies, being the eye of God and all that crap.

For that our commander can just issue orders from the radios or very special vehicles, tanks are totally out of the ecuation for obvious reasons.

Well what about creating a dummy tank command vehicle, like a sherman with a fake barrel, or an unarmed m3 stuart, or a cromwell with a fake barrel etc etc what I'm getting at is giving the commander a more effecient and effective way to view the battlefield, that would only work on specific levels. The command bus is cool and all, being mobile etc. But is kind of...meh... I know what you mean Lobo, hence the strike at karkand comment, trying to throw in some versatility.

it's annoying when the command truck getting bombed by aircraft or annoyed by small infantry just because it cannot defend itself... or get drive away by someone else...it would be nice if you could use weapons in seat 2 (binocs, rifle, SMG)

I like the idea off adding a commander asset to the scoutplane. I think nobody used the spotter function on seat #2, especially as even me is getting flight-sick in there with that strange angle of view. I flew with somebody for a whole round of Aberdeen, and my face must have had a green color after that.

Actually the British Commander car has a Bren gun as the FHmod site states.

small.gifAEC 4x4 ACV "Dorchester"

Class:ACVSpeed:60 km/h

Armament:1 x .303 Bren MG, carried inside

Why isnt it in the game?

we are often thinking about stuff to give the commander more purpose on the battlefield, letting them command from scout planes is just one of them. other is droping of special kits like AT / Commando etc, some even suggested dropping of mobile AT guns, or trenches. However some of these suggestions have some drawbacks, dropped AT-guns > realism, dropped fortifications like trenches, bunkers etc always look ugly ... and it is far from sure which, when, and what will make its way into the game. But be assured that devs are trying to give the commander more meaning and purpose on the battlefield, but dont want to make him GOD.

Instead of getting him a tank give him more things to do. Arty and supplies is not enough when squads know what they have to do or they just don't listen. And to be more entertaining you could give him 3rd person view of other players like you have after you're dead. As a commander I would like to see some action before arty refills.

Only thing that would "give" the commander more importance, is if the out of bonds area were created by him, as he issues orders to squads... (squad A attack here for example, and they cant go outside that area...)

Other than that, its ok as it is now..
