This came to my head yesterday. If stuff based on objective maps exist in BF2, I was thinking about a map based on using aircraft in the sky. The whole map would take place only in the sky (well, the bottom appears as clouds). The objectives would involve a formation of Allied bombers whether they'd be B-17s, B-24s, or Lancasters. The fact is that the bombers are standing still in the air. They just look like they're flying (with propellers moving). For the German spawn point, anyone on the German spawn point would automatically spawn in a plane which may be either a Bf-109, FW-190, or a Bf-110. The Allied spawn points would be in the bombers themselves where the Allied players would have to scramble to the bombers' turrets to fend off Luftwaffe aircraft. Another Allied spawn point is for Allied fighter planes escorting the bombers. The objective for the Luftwaffe is to destroy the bombers. There could be 9 or 10 bombers involved in this. The Allied forces are to fend off the German fighters until their ticket levels run out. And since the map would look like the entire sky with clouds on the bottom, bailing out is just a deathtrap.
You'd have to build a bomber static object... which might acutaly be doable. However skyboxes being what they are you'd have to put the B-17's near the "ground".
Not to mention since the things would be immoblie... a 190 would VERY quickly rip that B-17 apart.
Immobile, unless.....there were a way to jigger the physics so that bombers were actually moving from point A to point B without actually physically moving within the box...
So basically, the map would move around the bombers. Intercepting fighters would be faced with all the problems (deflection shooting, intercept angles, relatives speeds, etc.) that they'd have when trying to attack real bombers going 300mph, and if they fell too far behind, they'd be out of bounds and die.
Make any sense at all?
For the static bombers, the players inside would have to move around in the bomber to get to the other turrets if there aren't enough people.
you could create a PCO(with only entry points being for the gunners) for the bomber an attach a rotational bundle that moves around the map.
I for one would love to be able to move around inside the bomber
maybe for a north africa-type map, there should be formation of heavy bombers or medium bombers. For a map like this, there would be actually a ground while the bombers are flying around the map (maybe similar to that Cretan village map). In this kind of suggested map, the Germans would have to get into their planes and take off to intercept these bombers.
It would be posible. It would be like the static transport airplanes like in PoE where they moved around in a big circle and people were spawed into the seats and bailed out to get to the map. And it should be Mustang's and B-17's vs ME-109's and the bombers should have static piolets that look around, and there should be WAY more than 10 bombers, the would be riped apart in a flash, and they realisticly bombed in packs of about a hundred.:D
as for the bombers themselves, if people really want to bail out (for the suggested North Africa map), the bombers should have some hatch door open. Heck, for that map, if anyone is going to drop bombs in certain areas, you would have to get into the bombadier's position. Also, for moving static bombers, those inside them must open the bomb-bay doors before dropping the bombs.
