I did a search but didn't really find anything on this. Would it be possible to implement full widescreen monitor support into FH2? For those who don't know, Dice decided not to support widescreen resolutions because it gave an "Advantage" to owners. This is what happens when you run widescreen in BF2.
There is a FOV tweak that fixes the cut off tops and bottoms but Punkbuster finds this as a cheat. Now if FH2 can get around this somehow or consult with PB it would be a widescreen FH players' dream. :)
Well your pictures don't show up mate, but I know what you mean, my monitor is 1680 by 1050 or something like that, and the biggest bf2 runs in is a lot less then this, can't remember. A clan member told me you could adjust a line paremter to allow your monitor to display it full screen, but I don't know if it'd work.
Yes you could adjust the Target in properties to "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1440 +szy 900" for changing the res but it would cut off the top and bottom on a widescreen res. :(

2 of my friends and I have the exact same HDTV's. The 37" westinghouse 1080p. (Got mine for $805 new!) Anyways, I am the only one who actually uses it as a TV, they use it as a PC monitor. Just like most of us are sitting in front of this and that, they sit in front of 37" monitors!!! Too bright and too big for me. Im sticking with my 19" monitor. Anyways, they both play FH with them with the squashed look. They can make very long shots as people are just plain bigger on their screens even at long distances. They have no problems with the squashed look, and dont even notice it anymore.
Pictures don't show up for me either. As for widescreens, I considered them when I was buying new monitor 2 weeks ago, but in the end went for normal 19". Widescreens although nice looking need to be rather high res to realy feel it, and then ones with good response time are: a)expensive as hell or b)unexistant I think I'll wait, although Half-Life 2: Episode One looks quite hefty on the trailers in widescreen mode...

As for sollution to your problem, I heavily doubt it's possible to implement different type of displaying for a monitor on mod base, it's a rendering engine thing, and devs have no access to it. Also lately some betatesters and devs were discussing this, and came with same sollutions which you listed. Hence it seems like the best choice is normal 4:3 aspect, which unless is not cut nor streached.

When BF42 first came out you could use the Matrox Parhelia (3 monitor card). It was disabled with a later patch. I believe it can still be used SP though.
I just set my video card to automatically adjust my monitor to be porpotianate. Sadly most games are run with black bars on the left and right side, but Company of Heroes has my setting so I run that on wide screen, yummy
Don't even tease me with a thought of how Half-Life 2 could look on widescreen.

Not much of a discussion realy, begun with one person suggesting sollutions similar to ones given by OP here, but later were proved on not to work, and noone realy found any others. Remember though, I am a beta tester, I don't know about everything what's going on among the devs.;)
