I don't think this is jumping the gun, but it is obvious that FH2's fist release would take some time in coming out. I am one of those dedicated fans waiting anxiously but patiently (crossing my fingers that it is totally SP supported). Now before anyone starts flaming, this is NOT a 'release now' thread. My idea for FH2 is this: The devs might have a list of maps they wish to create for the first release and some they may wistfully wish for. I wonder if it wont be possible to inform non-developers about the list of maps that the devs would want in so that people can start working on maps soon after Fh comes out (Which is ideal, seeing the complexity of the maps already seen and avoiding Classic BF2/Bf42 arcade gameplay maps) This way, the devs can completely focus on the 2nd campaign (release) and allow the fams to come up with as many maps to fill in the blanks. i think this should be dev-doordinated somewhat so that the maps can meet standards, naming scheme, scale and complexity... not to mention with minimal bugs and...hopefully have bot-support, unique gameplay and whatnot...And so that they can be finally collected into one nice mappack for FH in b/n version 1 and version2 to make THAT wait all the easier
This sounds like a good idea, I've had the same (highly optimistic) thoughts myself, though I'm not a mapper.
Maybe some of the fan mappers already know what will be in and act accordingly ;)?
This sounds like Official FH Map Pack. No reason to discontinue them, so we can pretty much expect such thing.;)
well, it is a BIT looser than an Official Mappack cuz with the system employed in a mappack, the maps need to be intoto to FH standards. with this, well, i sure wont want to run around another Crappy my-version-of-Dday map like they had so many of in BF42 and FH, but... None the less, a little more flexibility, a little more communication and more people onboard would allow many more maps to be made...And if one person takes up one map, the FH devs tell everyone that is being done, so we can suggest stuff, we can help out (Well, I don't know coding at all but, someone) and most importantly, others can focus on the other maps knowing that that particular map is checked off (being done) and with enough communication and updates, hell! We can have new maps pouring out every week! ofcourse, i'm sure with pietje, coca-cola and a few others we can always be sure to have the harshest criticms if the mappers show off crappy screenshots of maps in progress
FH mappers are the best,don´t flood them with crappy community job,if any community mapper is good,I suppuse he/she/it is already on FH team
Such type of support already exist, I think the only element we're realy lacking is letting "world" know more directly and often about newly released fan projects. It is the same like with a game, the bigger modding community it gathers, the more people it is able to interest, and encourage to play. FH website has a section with custom maps which were not included in official map packs, and I think it should be updated regularly. However it's possible to do so only if mappers will let the devs know about their projects themselves, as FH team is too busy to go after people who do not want to work on FH2 directly. Every single plausible modding initiative (as in, not just changing tiny bits of FH2 content and taking some big credit for it) should be advertised among the community. Werther by the forums or the FH website, where the first option is accessible by the singel modders themselves. As for direct support and coordination, FH team is not an insitution. You don't need to search for a special department which will help you with your project. Just go on, tell the world about it on the forums, tell the devs about it if you're taking it very seriously or they announce a map pack to be in progress of completition. They're normal people, if they find your work interesting they will help you, or even add to their private community to have more direct contact with you. I got alot of support for my map from previosuly FHteam freinds/mappers/betatesters and now devs, so now I consider people like LiliMarlene or Knoffhoff as my menotors in the more sophisticated areas of mapping/general modding. Just work on shaping your ideas into reality, devs aren't blind. Ofcourse this isn't some official position of the FHteam, but only the way I see it from my own experience.
