Delyn;4001801:rolleyes: i am well aware
It didn't seem like it, you typed "is finished just release it" implying that it is already finished. I'm aware it was a typo, but i was trying to make it clear just incase someone new came along and read what you typed and would think it's out already.
not really a typo, we were talking about a hypothetical situation (didn't even have to be FH2) where the mod is finished and ready for release, so I would be correct in saying "It is finished just release it" But yes it is hard to follow with how the post is on the previous page.

Delyn;3999940Something ive never really understood - Why do the prerelease torrents need to be passworded at all? (not just FH, any mod really) Once you have your meeting and every one agrees it ready to go, you set up the torrent and upload it, thats it isn't it? You cant change anything after people start downloading, right? So why cant you, when everything is ready and uploaded, just post the link and say here it is...? plus trying to find old pw can sometimes be tricky just curious is all
It's because the torrent is a "pre official release". Once the devs decide the mod is worthy of being released they will set a date (let's say one week later) so that they can put up announcements and make sure the news spreads. Spread the mod to download sites, spread the server files etc. It also gives server admins the time to prepare their servers etc. In the mean time they can release a bit torrent (the "pre release") so that people can already download the game.
On the official release date the downloads will be made public and people can then officially download the mod. The people who already have the mod download can then all hop online at the same time were a large collection of enthusiastic fans and server admins are waiting for them.
Why? Well if you would release the bittorrent on the official release date (or before that thus actually making that the official release date) people would all have to download it and install it, then go online to see only a small bunch of other people has already installed the mod. It's more fun to start of with a big bang. :nodding: :naughty:
You are getting me all excited about release day there Donuts, damn you. :)
Yes hopefully it is released before 2008.
:uhm: I can see the reasoning now but.... So what if the big bang doesn't happen until a little after release, the die hard fans are most likely going to be the first ones in the servers and will know there will be plenty of people to follow soon enough and not just think this is it.
It's simply a lot more fun awaiting the release together, irc chatting, forum whorage as people loose their ability to contain their excitement. Knowing the servers are up, and all you have to do is insert a pasword, install and play, all together, all the at the same time.
just because you're a die hard fan doesn't mean you can download something faster. I have poor interweb connection, i'm sure i'll be on later that day when all the T1 connection people have already downloaded it and installed it. If you release it all at once, after the servers have been set up, then you can expect a huge rush of people joining the servers, making it more fulfilling with huge battles.
Adding to the discussion to make sure all of you have a pleasurable playing experience on the WOLFGaming.net FH2 server. Would it be possible if we get the public client and server at least 72 hours in advance so we can setup rules, etc. within our staff privately until public release.
will do TheHeartSmasher :)
by the way, many thanks for the ongoing use of the test server :)
