Yeah, do that and then whenever Stalingrad loads half of the Russian team will switch to the German team and the other half will disconnect from the server. Hell, I know I would, it's a GAME, not a historical recreation, and games are meant to be fun. I sure as hell don't consider it fun to run around without a rifle and constantly get raped by the enemy. And the Kommisar idea is even worse, having a kit that can teamkill without punishment is going to lure in every retard 12-year-old on the face of the planet. Actually, the idea is good, the only flaw is that it wrongly assumes that people aren't retarded assholes :)

Also, the idea that one team has to cross a body of water to even get into battle is a serious no-no in BF2. Whenever it's done it means almost certain rapeage as one team just camps the shore and destroys everyone as they cross the river.

Spencer the Great;4237985Now many of us have seen enemy at the gates where the 1st Brigade of the 347th Glorious People's Revolutionary Cannon Fodder Division, part of the larger 5th Penal Shock Army are sent as the first wave across the Volga only to be cut down by German mg emplacements. (not to worry though, cause the NKVD has got your back ;) ) Anyways the hero of the movie doesn't have a rifle, all he has is ammo, and he is forced to run across the "killzone" without any capability for returning fire. Only after searching his dead comrades does he acquire a rifle. For me FH1 Stalingrad was a difficult map as Germany, for various reasons, including the Russian artillery flag rape, moving on..... using the old FH1 map just for example. I propose that the Russians be unarmed until they reach the top of grid square F4. That way they can't rifle whore the German mgs from the docks, and the mgs will be much more useful. I also think this will force teamwork for the Russians as they will have to attack in massive waves to overcome the defenders. Or the Russians could have a max time limit to spend on the docks after spawning (to discourage rifle camping) lets say 3 seconds, after which if you haven't moved you will be executed by a commissar for cowardice. (idea- the docks could an "island" of "out of bounds territory" and the time limit could be reduced from 15 seconds to 3 or so. :naughty:

I have you same thoughts on stalingrad, i loved FH1's stalingrad with the russians coming across the vulga on the river boats, while being shot at be german machine guns, it was truly fun. Which is why i am mad now, because all remaining FH1 servers have removed the machine guns from stalingrad...and added vehicles to Omaha beach. WHY YOU NOOBS WHY!?!!? anyways...I believe FH2's stalingrad should have heavy kit limiting on the russian side, only a few rifles, the rest a soldier without a rifle, then, as they move up, and capture the first command pos, Scattered Rifle packs should be spread all up and down the hill, where the russian team can pick up and use the packs. And you christ sakes, please make sure there is machine guns on the german side...

That's a good point. It would only work with disciplined and mature players (hah!) who cared about the realism aspect, so clans and private servers is probably the only places it might work.

Also, I can see how a Commissar could screw with players' stats by repeatedly sending them to get killed. Once again we see the stat system is the spawn of hell....

For public servers I think an out of bounds island would work better than an actual commissar class. (I would'nt mind in a clan match though) But I think that it would be best implemented in a more abstract manner. ohh the death message could say instead of "you have been killed to" "you have been executed for cowardice" there would be no actual commissars- just commissars in spirit! :P

You might very well think that

jumjum;4238443 So, anyone else think a "commissar class" might be an interesting addition?

No, you give the fun of gameplay to a single player. Do you think the majority of the players want that? One single idiot using this class to TK a whole squad just because they are not doing as he wants to... and you have 5 people who will never play FH2 again.

I think the commissar class is a good idea but the teamkilling not. Instead they could have loudspeakers to yell at the other troops. Maybe they can point it at someone like a gun and the targeted player will get a signal or a blurred screen. And why cant the map be based on entire Stalingrad (made a map like that for bf42 but it lagged a lot). There should be a train station, big factories and the Pavlov house. The 16 player version could still be like the movie.

I don't think it's possible to make a map like that. IIRC, over a million people died in that single battle, more than any other battle in the history of the world. Even scaled down to compare to other maps, we are going to need a 384 player server for something like that. I think it has to be kept split into various maps.
