Thamu;4685657I had used the PF toolbox to download custom maps,and works well... :)

We really need something like this for FH2. I played in a BF2 tournament called BF2Combat and remember using a downloader program to install the newest versions of campaign maps. I wonder if the FH2 Toolbox is capable of including a similar feature.

] I keep hearing shit about how the dev team is small and what not, so why the hell is the development team making stuff for proprietary tournaments???

I usually try to avoid these forums, look at the great updates every week and leave this forum alone, but this quote intrigued me. What makes you think that the development team is making maps for our tournaments? All the maps that have been made for our tournement (And I'm assuming this is the same for [F|H], correct me if I'm wrong) were made by our own player base who have the pure talent alone to create some of the great maps that we play every week. Although we are in contact with the devs, as Dutch has already stated, in no way shape or form, and I mean, IN NO WAY SHAPE, OR FORM, ARE THEY PRODUCING MAPS FOR US. As I stated before they are all produced by a talented group of people who love doing what the do

I am in no rush to see Normandy maps, I don't believe that the storied campaign will be some great panacea. Wrt no ammo on a map, have you ever played Sfakia? I have the WaW map pack btw and I liked it a lot, obviously they aren't perfect but they sure as hell are playable and fun. So why wait for them to be perfected?

@ Zurich I was referring to the fact that these tournaments have products that were taken from Fh2. They (tournaments) may have given stuff in return but I cannot recall any of the maps so far being attributed to anyone outside the core dev team. I am not saying that the Devs are producing for the tournaments. I am saying that the tournaments are using product that was developed for FH2 first. A lot of you guys have no clue how bad it can be in certain time zones and unfortuantely you have your heads sutffed up your asses and won't recognize the collapse in numbers at certain times of day. Have you by chance noticed that HSlan is no longer populated at all times of the day? Let the dogpile continue...

So the tournaments should work to get you new maps? You use the same mod as the tournaments, why do you say the tournaments must create new maps and why not you? What makes you different? Recruiting 5 new members is no effort at all. If you are in need of new maps learn to map yourself and create them in the quality you like. Do you have any idea how many players for FH2 the tournaments deliver? So it is actually more that you owe the tournaments to make us some new maps.

(Holy shit Zurich has an account on here!)

And I will let him [Zurich] handle your last post, except for the Hslan part. Yes we have realized it, suprisingly. I almost forgot that you are the only person who would notice such a thing. However most of us have other things like idk, REAL LIFE that takes us away from our computers.

And yes you win the no ammo thing on Sfakia, but most other maps have ammo, you can blame Mr. Cheese for that one, if he or any of the other devs start getting in on this thread.

@sheikyerbouti

I sense your frustration and understand your impatience. I've seen the noticeable drop off in players and it kills me to see an awesome mod not get its due. I agree with current state of the mod that new players will become discouraged with the lack of servers, players, variety of maps etc... In the discussions with several WaW members, at this stage of development, most are uninterested in desert maps and are trying to patiently wait for Normandy.

The WaW tournament is hard at work on a second map pack. I know our mapping team is focused on producing a batch of quality maps. Yes, our mappers are desperately craving new statics, weapons, vehicles, armies etc...from the devs, but in the end the player base will have to support us and download a separate file, then extract the content to the proper folder and unfortunately the average player will not do this. That is the main reason why joining a community is great because it offers a unique alternative to pubbing.

@sheikyerbouti

Sorry man... you know those moments on TV when someone is openly making a fool out of himself, and everybody knows it, except him?..

This is almost like that... I read your post and the simple fact is, you do not know how these things work... Im not going to quote you on all the errors cos I havent the time, Im busy mapping FH2 maps, but simply:

F|H and WaW arent "using" any material that was made for FH2, we're mapping with the released Mod 2.1 that you also have. No material is produced exclusively for the tournaments.

You got it all wrong, The MiniMod we made for FH1 (fhtmod) is not stand-alone, it requires FH1 to be played - it was labeld the Expansion to Forgotten Hope 1. Released publicly, for you to play. Now did you download it and install it?

The Maps for FH2 aren't released until they reach the quality we, and the Fh2 team requires. You think that we would release a 65% finished map, just because you are bored with the 13 stock maps?. Do you think that there is a basement filled with monkeys that produce maps for fun? (for bananas). A level for a contemporary Computergame like BF2, set in a atmospheric/realism-inspired world as FH2 requires a shitload of work, and the final product should partly be a piece of art (like a painting, or piece of music) as well as a Fully workable. sustainable GameAsset.

No one in FH2 team is producing material just because they wanna play for fun. No one. We all do it with a professional attitude, its not three 15-year old guys in a room with puters who throws together a fun-map over night. This is what I sense you believe is going on.

You ask why F|H hasn't released any maps... My answer is: for the same reason a movie company isnt releasing the raw clips from a movie set. It needs to be edited. If you dont know what an Editor does, Google it. Its the same thing. And it can take many months if you include testing on live servers as well.

That should also answer your question "why wait for them to be perfected?"...

sheikyerbouti;4686100@ Zurich I was referring to the fact that these tournaments have products that were taken from Fh2. They (tournaments) may have given stuff in return but I cannot recall any of the maps so far being attributed to anyone outside the core dev team.
Again, you don't know how these things work... A "map" as you look at it, doesnt get made, then stays made forever, like a Song or a Movie. A Map in a mod Community goes through many phases, gets re-edited, used again etc... For example the Sky_valley map, it was released publicly (did you download it??) we adapted it by permission, edited it and played it in our campaign under different name with lots if things changed. Now could we release that map in a map-pack? No. Because it was another persons material first. Not FH2. Another map which we made is under discussion to be released soon.(secret so far) A Third map was made by me, worked nice for 6 hours in a tournament and everybody had a great time, but if I were to even consider updating it for a public release, I would have to spend 100-150 hours in the Editor tweaking it. And on it goes... You fail to see that the Mod/Maps/Game you play mean something more to other people than just giving you fun, its actually real people who created every single polygon that you look at when playing FH2... remember that next time you play the maps... 99% of every material you look, hear or feel, is made for this mod..
I am not saying that the Devs are producing for the tournaments. I am saying that the tournaments are using product that was developed for FH2 first.

FH2 first? What the hell do you mean by this... *embarrasing moment on TV re-appears*

If the "standards" were to be "relaxed" as you say, the Mod would die. No thanks.

When you speak about FH2 and the tournaments as if they were some "companies" with bad "policys" etc and the "lack of cooperation" etc, I just wanna sink through the ground, because it shows you're just stepping into the speakers-chair in a conference-room where you havent the wildest idea about what to talk about... Really, I mean no offense, but stop it. When there is something for you to download, you will notice, until then, relax. :cool:

lol actually I forgot my main point sheki... the tournaments are unique.. its not supposed to be for everyone... if you join waw or forgotten honor you join not only a unique game environment, you join a group of friends, gaming buddies who enjoy this great mod in a customized way... if this is not for you, if you feel too "special" to take part in it, then you miss out on some fun, but if youre lucky, the maps and material we produce might reach you in some shape or form. so good luck :cool:

er... could we get back on topic anyway? the idea of implementing map download through the toolbox has nothing to do with the availability of tournament maps for public play.

BTW, is Purity still active in the forums/mod? (he was the one who coded the toolbox right?) Do the mod team have the toolbox sourcecode?
