I saw the word scripted and instantly though 'not of FH!' but that is actually a really good idea, kind of like the scripted JU52s on Cretan or the 109s on Kiew. Only scripted flares would add a really neat effect that would infulence the gameplay.

I don't know if this would work but you could code the ammo/fuel transport into thinking it was a red barrel. They would explode if hit by arty or the flaregun for example.
