not possible for the BF2 engine.
D-FensLike he would know how to use it and where to aim.
Werent soldiers briefed on how to use several enemy weapons? The panzerfaust has instructions so even an 8 yearold can use it.. and they did.
With Panzerfaust, if you could read German, you could use it; the firing instructions were printed on the top of the shell:smokin:
Also, there's the fact that the armory is destroyable; if it goes up, the whole team is left without guns (which I think they wouldn't like:rolleyes: )
Guys, standard training for any infantry platoon is everyone can fire any weapon the unit controls. Some can do it better than others, they are the specialists, but everyone knows the basics. What would you do if your AT gunner died? OK tiger, come and get me, I don't know how to pull the trigger?
I could imagine that would introduce armory humping to the game. Imagine 10 guys on your team waiting for a mp 44 to spawn while your flags are getting capped.
Get a time machine and play Galactic Conquest's ISD Judicator. "N00bz" just loved to camp the weapons racks at that map for blaster rifles, leading to a Rebel defeat:).
One way to solve it would be to make the armoury out-of-bonds. Seriously. Get in there and grab a weapon and get out. If you linger there, you die. Plain and simple. I once wanted to make my own versions of several GC maps, and that was one thing I was going to do for the corvette on ISD Judicator: Make part of the corvette out-of-bonds so that you had to advance - no loitering if those racks are devoid of weapons!
Not to mention it would become the number one tank camping spot in the game. After all, if they can't grab the bazzoka, they can't blow you up!
Cough, Anti-Base Camper zones, cough. I was once working on a map for GC, and one of the things I was going to have in it was that you started out blank and then had to pick up a weapon from the armoury.
As for kits being realistic: Of course they aren't. A sub-machine gunner picks up a medi-kit and all of a sudden he knows how to use it (does it just dawn on him out of nowhere, like "oh, that's how you do it!")? A tank hunter picks up a wrench and all of a sudden he's an expert at repairing tanks? Get real.

RexRaptorHow about, instead of picking up an entire kit, you pick up a single gun, of your choice? Drop your Panzerfaust, pick up the Bazooka, and keep the K98. And because of all the weight, you cut the sprinting in half. Or, pick up his grenades, increasing it from 2, to 4, or 3. Whatever.
Ignoring Gibs "not possible" post: Well it would be intresting but there would come a whole rush at certain items. Most of the time the army assigned you a weapon and not the other way around. They wouldn't let all the soldiers walk into the armory and tell them to grab the stuff they prefered. Kits somewhat represnt this: You fight with what you get.
It (kits) also makes it much easier to balance maps/gameplay.
edit: Picking a weapon of choice from death soldiers (friend and foe) would be intrestin but also mean major balance issues, people would rush to get the best items. Ofcourse this would be realistic butit most likely would ruin gameplay and balance.
even if it wernt possible id wouldnt think it would be a good idea. this would lead to imbalances, where the team designates a set group of people to die, and then the others can custom their kit into a zooka, mg34 nightmare. same thing for the armory. the kit system is fine the way it is imo
