I have an almost exact computer from 2003 except I upgraded to a gb of ram and a 9600pro 256mb Now I am looking to upgrade my self. I will first get an agp 8x video card(6800gt from ledtec for $350) then I will go for a new motherboard and AMD64 +3200 combo from tiger direct for $250 this summer. A p4 2.4ghz is still plenty powerfull for running games excpet Hl2, I herd that going from a 2.4ghz to a 3.2 give you an extra 40fps in Hl2 with a 9600xt.

id suggest a 6600gt over a 9800pro, i think it's around the same price or a little bit more expensive but will surely last longer. Also, check your mobo manual if you can support 3.4Ghz just to be sure

id recommend a better video card. with the specs you've posted it's the bottleneck in your system. Besides, i don't think it's a big leap from a fx5600. Also, if you can't find your mobo manual you can just look for it on the net but i'm guessing it should be able to handle it gud luck!! :)

Yeah forget a 9600pro, I have one and it's great, but suddenly things aren't running as great as i want - HL2 runs maxed, but other new games are stuck at medium. If you don't wanna spend too much but don't wanna wait then get a 9800pro or better, havent checked prices on them lately but I think they're about $300. If that is too hard to understand ( it is for me, but i'm tired lol) then here : Get 1gb ram in about a week Wait about 3 weeks for P4 prices to get lower (i just know they will because 3.0ghz are the same price i got mije for 3 months ago) and a 2,4 that is actually 800mhz fsb should be fine. Get something better than a 9600. 9800Pro or a nV6600

get either a 6600gt, x800xl, 6800 (the new 128MB one) or even just the 6800le they're all good cards, especially for the money. i know that the 6600gt is available in both PCI-e and AGP 8x, im pretty sure the 6800le is but im not too sure about the others

I would say hold out on the processor, they will be cheaper in 2 to 3 months with dual core p4's commin' and the new AMD lineup. If you have around $340 USD you can grab either an x800XL from powercolor or a 6800gt from leadtek. Both are great. You won't notice a difference going from a 5600 to a 9600, get a 9800pro or better.
