Out of curiosity, I looked in the FH folder and noticed the maps alone made up 817 megabytes of 2.19 gigabytes (uncompressed). That's almost half the size! Also, some people complain that FH needs to get rid of redundant maps. Well, I have a suggestion. How about, for future releases (full/incremental), release maps separately, together or in map packs? For example, for incremental, put all the maps together, but for full releases, put the maps in packs of around 10 (maybe organized by theater, or year) and release them separately. That way, players can choose which maps they like. This will be good for people who like a few maps only (because their favorite server will run them more often) This will be good for people who like to play all maps (because with this method, there is no reason to get rid of classic maps) This will be good for people who do not like big downloads (Releasing maps separately means around 40% decrease in size) etc. Plausible idea?
Actually that might be hard to get all the maps you need if they are individual downloads you need.
I have suggested theatre specific map packs. An example would be to put all the Western Europe maps in one pack, all Medeterranian and North Africa maps in nother pack, All Ostfront (Eastern front) maps in one pack, all Pacific maps in another pack, etc.
No, for some simple reasons: 1. From our experience, alot of people are NOT able to install 3 files in the correct order (1/3, 2/3, 3/3), so having to download the maps seperately would confuse them even further. 2. it's more like 1/3, not 1/2 ;)
haha...but you should maybe release a single map once in a while...:)
