F.O. is forward observer. They basically called in air stikes and artillery and accompanied the forward units into battle.

What I mean by this is that the StuG has a position where the commander can spot for the gunner.

I would like to see more F.O. vehicles that can call in arty.

Example would be the M-20 Scout Car, basically a M-8 Greyhound with no turret.

Others I think would be good would be the SdKz 222, that Canadian open topped scout car, the Brit MkVI light tank or the Daimler, Soviet BA-64 or BT-7

These vehicles would be special version where you could drive the vehicle to a position and using the crosshairs of the gun point at a target and right click to call in arty. IIRC many of these FO vehicles carried dummy main guns to make room to lay out artillery plotting maps and extra radios.

Nice idea but i rather see new vehicles that can spot instead of current ones. The vehicles you mention are AFV not art spotters (except the ba20 and the m20) Although i rather see a new kind of recon plane with a mg or so as self defense. :)

The Fiesler 'Storch' had a rear-mounted MG, I believe.

I listed those vehicles because in reality they were often used for that role.

I do not think the Fiesler Storch was ever factory requipped with a MG but that does not rule out field modifications. And recon and spotter planes should not be armed unless its with smoke rockets to mark targets for Jabo's.

*shrug* In Harry Turtledove's 'Worldwar', the Storch has a rear mounted MG42... so I'm guessing it would be a field mod.

Then again, the book series is about aliens invading earth in 1942... ;)

Yeah but even if its true, no one is going to use them if its going to happen. The chances that you get destroyed while spotting are high. And you dont get anything for spotting anyway. It seems to me a plane would be a better idea anyway.

Besides the vickers/222/bt7/daimler are my fav vehicles. Dont want see them being nerfed. :(

Anything to make arty useful in this mod is a great thing. At the moment its usefulness is almost restricted to raping a flag with katyushka :/ It is that rare to get a decent arty spot... On the other hand thats not mods fault, but more like players fault for not bothering to give spots.

I´d prefer if almost every vehicle with a radio could call in artillery strikes. Maybe do it so that if you press alt-fire in an MG position, you mark that target for artillery.

I was suggesting only one or two vehicles have this feature. It gets to be a headache when you receive multiple artillery requests.
