well, i was currently playing FH sea maps frequently, i think those maps are not exciting enough, this is not mainly due to map designation

the craziness of the current situation is, 2 BBs firing at just 400-500 meters away..., lol, and the ships sunk too fast due to the close distance and accurate fire

also, the submarine is too powerful in such a small map, and destroyers can get near a battleship with some luck and torpedo the battleship

1. in fact, i just want that FH2 have very large very large map for pure sea battle maps, where each side in pretty far away and have to plan a tactic to destroy enemy fleet, they have to use formations, firing from very far away using spots, this would also make spotter plane more useful, but a problem is how could a player have such visibility? if having a very high visibility will not lag, it would be good

2. So as the combat distance is far, they should have guns having something binoculars(like sniper) on them or being able to switch sights for a bigger magnification.

3. i suggest to have a "flagship" in those maps, if the flagship is destroyed, the side either lose OR reinforcements won't spawn...

4. of course there should have most equipments of real battleships and cruisers, such as smoke screens, search lights...(especially in night map, that would make the map very exciting)

5. i think if you involve aircraft carrier in this..., would not be a good idea? or everyone just do planecamp...

6. get rid of flags, maps like coral sea can live without a flag!

7. the maps are just limitless water, won't be that hard to map, the problem is the ships...... i am too greedy to ask for destroyers, light cruisers, heavy cruisers, battlecruisers , battleships...lol, please i don't want to see POW all the time, :p...

generally these maps would last MUCH longer than maps like coral sea..., and very intense, exciting, and some luck dependent because you have to shoot very far...i am pretty sure that all naval fans will like them

there is a post that to make a ship of many parts that would explode... or damage, if this is coded, it would be great...

Maps of this kind of big gun warfare i would like to see: Rheinueburg : would be a fun engagement Guadalcanal : night sea battle (should be funnnnn, suddenly you get killed by a battleship shell, lol) Java Sea : where smaller ships like destroyers , cruisers engage Italy sea map? : i know the italien navy got a few big ships...(i guess the devs dare not to model italien ships) Leyte Gulf? (not enough players for planes...)

i think my ideas are brilliant theoretically..

Well, they are.

For a battleship Simulation, but sadly not for this mod or engine.

"the craziness of the current situation is, 2 BBs firing at just 400-500 meters away..., lol, and the ships sunk too fast due to the close distance and accurate fire" You can't change that. Bf42 and FH2 (BF2) have fog-of-war which limits your view. Taking it off would make FH a camping breeding ground-- players sniping from one main to another. Therefore IMO, not. Possible. "also, the submarine is too powerful in such a small map, and destroyers can get near a battleship with some luck and torpedo the battleship" You know, submarines were actually... powerful... right? Only thing that could limit the power of a submarine is all the complex "thingies" you have to do to actually get it to operate and shoot. (See Silent Hunter III  ) "1. in fact, i just want that FH2 have very large very large map for pure sea battle maps, where each side in pretty far away and have to plan a tactic to destroy enemy fleet, they have to use formations, firing from very far away using spots, this would also make spotter plane more useful"

Naval tactics and FH2 do not mix togheter. Especially when you are playing in a pub-server. Operating a... torpedo boat... takes disicpline. You need to have people that work in a certain department (weapons, spotter, repairer)-- and to tell you the truth, people don't quite play by those rules in pub servers. :( Instead you'll see a bunch of guys switching between the gun spots of the ship... not paying attention to the BB they're about to ram and the guy that fell overboard. It's just how it is. ;_; Also gun ranges in FH42 at least (don't know about FH2) are just fine. They're not unrealistic (ie cannonade pirate style) but not so realistic you need a 500mb big map to play it. It's not hard to mod limitless water-- but the huge size of the map-file is! The ideea with the flagship is nice and unique but hard to mod in me thinks. "get rid of flags, maps like coral sea can live without a flag!"

No flags = no teamplay = camping/raping spawnpoints galore! I feel you about the lack of naval variety in FH. I'd settle for this on some eastern-front maps: http://www.defencetalk.com/pictures/data/3188/Soviet-BB-'MARAT'-(1915-1943).jpg. Meh, the only ship under the Red Navy ensign that I commanded was a Elco lend-lease PT Boat in Finnwars. ;_; Then again, I'd settle for a HMS Hood that doesn't get sunk so fast by the Prinz Eugen in Rheinuebung just because in reality it got a lucky hit and it blew up. ;_; Well meh... that's the thing you see, IMO, FH doesn't take each sector of WWII warfare and disects it into small pieces. It tries to depict warfare on a large scale. Yup Italians had a lots of big ships (quite sexeh ships might I add). Like the BB Roma that got sunk by the world's first guided bomb (Fritz X - Germans).

EDIT: If you're so passionate about WWII naval combat try playing Silent Hunter III, NavyField (yucky) or Battlestations Midway. The last one being truely wonderful. It's just the Pacific Theater ATM but I'm sure someone will mod the monster in my sig into it soon :)

In an All water map you can get away with extending the view distance....Right know most BF2 maps are set up to around 300-400 meters, you can go up to 3,000 meters....

You can also get a map up to 1024x4 (the biggest maps are at most x2) which creates a HUGE playground for ship battles....

WE tend to disagree ;)

If you extend the view so much, people won't even leave the ship spawnpoint to kill the enemy. Add to that, of course, the fact that Bf42 maps look wierd with over-extended FOV. Attack on Carentan which is about 71-72 Mbs from what I remember, and it is a fairly huge map for infantry combat. On the other hand, for naval maps it's still small. Even though you don't have many static objects on naval maps the size would still be fairly huge. If you add better texture/lighting to that mod you're working on, I shall build you a statue. ^_^

With view distance at max and on a 1024x4 or above map you cant see the enemy spawn from your own ;) and this isnt BF42, BF2 looks fine with a large FOV.....

As for lag, I have a fairly crappy computer, can barely run the game on medium with maybe a 20-25fps range yet on an all water map I dont get any less frame drop then I would on any other map

Plus naval engagements should take place from farther away, seeing an enemy convoy coming in on the horizen is an amazing sight to see....they dont just Appear out of the fog right in front of you....you see the smoke billowing from there stacks and you think "oh sh*t" this is going to get interesting.....

personally i thought the naval battles in FH where fine as they where. when it comes to realism and gameplay i hope the mod will side with gameplay. it would sux to have no fog at all, but it should be more then like 50 feet.

:D, i think firing from far away is fine, you will try to move your ship to prevent being a static target

also, someone say that if you can fire from far, you won't leave the spawnpoint, but i am pretty sure that destroyers and cruisers won't sit there... they have little chance at long distance

i don't see the use of spotter plane now, yes, time for them to function

and you suddenly find a battleship near you is ridiculous, lol, you don't even have chance to run
