To start I would like to say Great Work and thanks forn putting yourtime into this mod. Now, from the screenshots I have seen it looks good, and I realize its not done yet, but I noticed the blending of when buildings meet the ground it is kind of bland. I realise this isnt the most important, but if you were to dot small little plants around the edges of buildings or have mounds of dirt surrounding buildings etc. I think it would make enviroment look VASTLY better because it seems the little details end up making up for themselves in the end!
Not a bad idea to have weeds growing by the sides of buildings, even if it's just textures.
i would like to show a prime example of this already in use. when you look at this trench notice how the dirt is kinda clumped up against the sandbags and uneven mounds dotthe ground, this is MUCH more effective than have a flat peice of ground go into the trench it gives a sense of grittiness and reality. This is better than the sandbags and dirt meeting a 90 degree angle!

Although all of it does improve visuals, additional polys and textures can affect perforamnce. That's why it is better when mapper has many small nice statics to use, so he can decide himself what can require the described detail. And I saw many buildings in real life wich touch the ground with 90 degree angle. It should be rather case of fortifications and bunkers wich have ground all over them.
You wouldn't need to make them statics, just variations in the building skin, no?
I don't think it would look so good.
Probably not as good as having little flower pots around Sheikh Ahmed's desert palace, but as you said, performance. And things like vines on buildings, or more crumbly plaster at the bottom could be done without much of a performance hit, no?
As long as the statics have small number of polys and not very high resolution textures, then they can be used extensively I belive.
