No they only had one gyrocopter, it was a variation on the Flettner. You would be surprised how many secret weapons they had, more than the Germans and almost all copies. I saw a history show about them, there were so many I couldn't remember all of them like I usually do. They were going to make vast quantities of the copter bu tnever got to it, they were going to pack the PBYs full of C4 and blow up the American carriers. There was a whole plan ready for the invasion of mainland Japan, full of kamikazes. They would send the PBYs, Me262s, Komets, and copters and send them into the american carriers. Only the copter would be slow enough to be shot down. They had even more fast jets and weird ideas for the mainland invasion. I do not care if we see it or not, just a lot of work to do. I won't fight for it but I won't fight against it either.
The wierd one is the mini sub that only one guy can fit in and pilot it right to the carrier. Also they had a boat/raft thing that their sucide soldiers would drive right up to a ship and blow it up like they did with the USS Cole in 2000, something like that. Also on Iwo Jima i cant find the pilot pack for the Japanese do you all know where it is? Same with the Sucide kit, is that one just for multiplayer?
I like the idea. I'ce always loved what if maps. And while still on the subject, can't some body make an Operation Highjump - 1947 map? With two subs and alot of armed nazi UFO's vs. The USS Philippine Sea and other ships and aircraft. >=)
While we're at it, I may as well say it, why not an Operation Sealion map. A reverse D-day, you know you want it. All we need is legit landing craft for the Germans...
The sucide kit is in the first (?) maybe second bunker north of the ramp to get on Iwo Jima. That's also where the American shotgun is when they cap the first/second flag. As for the pilot pack I thought it was right next to the N1K1s and the zero. Yes I would love an Operation Sealion map. We just need the equivalent of the big landing craft that could put a Panzer II, III, or IV on the beaches, plus the infantry LCVP you suggested. I cast my vote there.
I dont think they had any, they were going to send their men over on cargo ships, like how the US sent men over to England, they were going to be escorted by U-Boats and Kriegsmarine ships. Thats what the Battle of Britain was for. To clear the air for the Sea Lion landings.
Ther Germans were taking costal lighters and small ships and had cut the noses out to add ramps to off load tanks. I dont now what the proper term for them is but I have seen pics of them crusiign the coast and in The German Canal.
The USN LCM in the Pacific is probably the closest but its much too wide and doent have a big enough wheelhouse or a smokestack.
RAF raids on the port facilities where craft were being prepared destroyed a number of the impromptu landing craft so that is another reason teh riads were postponed.
wjlaslo They would send the PBYs, Me262s, Komets, and copters and send them into the american carriers. Only the copter would be slow enough to be shot down. I will say this ONCE more, the Japanese were NEVER going to build copies of any German planes! They redesigned the me262 into the Kika, which was smaller and could be launched from carriers, and they turned the Komet into the Type 2, which was larger, had greater fuel capacity, two smaller engines rather than one big one, and had better armament- 4x 20mm cannons in the nose.
What was the name of the redesingined Komet?
From Sgtsuckyshot's post, I think it was the Type 2.
