Not having ammo boxes and healing stations would lessen the importance of capuring and/or holding key positions on the map. It kinda replicates a seizure of enemy suppies (or loss of).

I like the idea of having ammo dumps around uncaps, where players from the possessing side can pick up ammo, but it can be blown up by enemy explosives or bombers. Perhaps there might be a way to code the bunkers so that if they want to place one near (a) key position(s) they change allegiance (spelling?) or they blow up and spawn one for the other side if a flag is captured. I also think that Trucks and Half-tracks should have varients that are dedicated to carrying ammo, and can resupply infantry within them, or drop crates that can fully re-arm a certain number of infantry. They could also make cars carry them I suppose, but there should be fewer droppables, and they should re-supply fewer infantry.

Joseph_PortaFinnWars has that system to ;)

I haven't played FinnWars, but i am sure they did it the same way that the very first mod for BF42 - ActionBattlefield - did it: they just spawn an ammo crate. BF2 is different, it actually leaves a pack of ammo to pick up by one soldier.

Archangel85it should be the other way around - riflemen carry the ammo for the support class and get their own ammo from ammo hanomags, trucks or big depots (mainbase).

yea just like in RO, where anyone can give a mg ammo box to the MG gunners!

well, and hearing about the squad system, it sounds normal to me that squads use trucks or halftracks to get to the frontline. Those trucks & halftracks would provide ammo for them, and only from them. imo each cappable flag already taken by a team at the start of a game should have an ammo box for its team (allows an easyer defence). If that flag's capped by the opposite team, they can only rely on their own supplies brought to em by their truck/halftrack. This would make those vehicles really important: loosing yours while you're trying to consolidate a position means you've got great chances to run out of ammo and go FUBAR. Flags in the no man's land should have no supplies at all and the only way to keep those MGs firing is to get a truck up there. I still haven't checked out BF2 yet so i can only imagine possible solutions without knowing what would be truely appropriate...

It makes sense you're not going to get K98 or MG34 rounds out of the back of a M3A1.

Also remember, what happens when you pick up that Germans K98? You should then be able to get ammo from a German AB (ammo box). And there are quite a few instances of, lemme think, Sg44s being used by Americans. So pick up kits would also have to be coded. Cheers, from Gemini's wurst nitemare.

All sounds great .... for a single player scripted game. You are forgetting that this is a multiplayer game, and intead of "relying" on your truck's ammo, people will just charge forward with a knive, die, and respawn at the flag (or the squad leader) with full ammo.
