to much info for the mody men! so it seems to be that the k98 is the "rifle" and the K98k was the "carabine" and was a bit smaller, and Dev's are developing a smaller versin of the used rifles, right?

No no, the K98 and the K98k are the same thing from my knowledge. It's kinda like how we call an M16 the M16 instead of an M16a2. We just drop the last part.

FederikerI think the americans engeneers would need a Remington (sp?) shotgun and or the Commander class or 1 out of 3 assault guy should get the M1 Carbine...

the remmie "bunker buster" Shotgun M1918 was gonna make it in the PTO maps, but then, something lame happened and we didnt see it. that would make a nice addition to densly jungled maps like makin. officers were damn near always issued an M1924 Thompson, while NCOs were issued M1 Carbines. Im not even sure if randomizing is possible.

by the way in the game their are sniper rifles that use clips with 5 bullets.. sniper rifles cant use clips cause u cant put a clip in a rifle when u have a scope mounted

Dee-JaĆ½Whatever, I think the Devs sayd Engineers would be getting shortened versions of the standard issued rifles...

That's true, but both the Germans and the British had abandoned the concept having both a full size rifle and a carbine.

The British Enfield rifle that was used in WWII was also a shortened version. Actually the Brits were the first to give all of their troops a carbine* sized rifle.

Of course their was the so-called Jungle carbine, the Enfield Mk V, but as the name already says it, it was not made for the 'second-line' troops, but rather for the Pacific theater.

And it has a rather bad reputation compared to the Enfield Mk IV, which was the standard rifle in WWII.

Therefore saying that all Engineers should get carbine-sized rifles makes no sense, since at least the German and the British Engineers were equipped with the same rifle as the other troops.

*= Once again, keep in mind that was called then a carbine is considered today a full sized rifle, because nowadays a rifle is called carbine if its barrel is not longer than 16 inches. The WWII carbines had mostly barrels longer than 20 inches, which is a necessity given the powerful cartridges they used....

true. however, there is no current animation for putting in rounds in one at a time. devs, add some damn animators to your staff! hell, the bf1942 devs love fh, i would not be surprised if we've played with them and not know it. maybe a few of them could lend a hand. maybe...

That brings up an interesting point. With the Garand, you had to load a clip, reloading was not possible until out of ammo. How then, can there be a Garand sniper in game? As for a shotgun, would have to be Pacific only, AFAIK, shotguns were forbidden by the Geneva Convention, which both USA and Germany had ratified. Japan didn't ratify it, so the US were not bound by it when fighting in the Pacific. I don't think shotguns would be that useful anyway. They would be OK in dense jungle (which doesn't exist), but in the terrain of most (if not all ) Pacific maps, the Thompson is much more versatile.
