Maybe just reducing the width of the vertical marking would be fine. I found some pics of the scope on the net and all 3 bars seem to have approximately the same width (anyway this might have something to do with the photo perspective maybe?), while in FH2 the vertical bar is twice as large as the horizontal one (at least on my PC: low-res and low details). The end result is that in the pics the vertical bar block much less view.
But anyway I noticed that in FH1 all 3 bars had more or less the same width, were they changed for historical accuracy in FH2?

Not my intention, and I wish you'd give me a little more credit. I was a 24/7 FH guy back on bf1942, I know SOMETHING of what I'm talking about. I'm not trying to undermine the reality of the mod, I'm saying that you can't adjust for bullet drop easily if you can't see your target.
How did German snipers use those sights? I know how the triangle sights on German tanks work (Zeiss optics) but not the black-bar reticle on the scope. There's got to be some sense to that design, German optics were of very high quality.

The main reason the Post type reticle was made is because it resembles an Iron sight, This made the transition from iron sights to a scope less difficult. Someone who had been using basic sights all their life could pick up a scoped weapon and know how to aim with it.
Although you do Have a thick line going through the middle of your scope it does have some advantages. The target area can be seen regardless of distance since there is no cross hair blocking it. And most of the view with one of those scopes is clear so you don't have crosshairs in the way.
Aiming is simple you position what you want to hit at the point of the vertical bar. Think of it as the bullet balancing on the point of the "picket fence"
In this game unless they are really close you will be aiming much higher than where you would in RL (Since the scope cannot be zero-ed).
Although now a Post style reticle is pretty much outdated, at its time It was better than most if not all crosshair sights since the crosshairs couldn't be made as thin as some are today.
Depending on the crosshair you can have quite a bit of the target hidden behind it if the distance is great. In a properly zero-ed post reticle sight you see the point of impact.
One other nice thing about that German retical that does not translate so well in game is its so much nicer in low light. Me and a friend went coyote hunting years back and I brought a K98 fitted with an old school scope with a thin ass US style retical. All looked good when set out bait and got in some nice concealed positions. Then as dusk settled in I noticed that I could not even see those thin lil'crosshairs anymore...The next time I came out I had a modern scope with the old style german retical and it worked great right up until dark.
For future reference, it's reticule.

Lobo;4130207compromise?, in Sparta? Blame the german opticians, we are the good boys Come kitty, come, it will be fast
what are you talking about ? in reality you would zero the scope .. so the black bar would not block the view. so either you make it realistic and give us the possibility to zero the scope or make it transparent. but the way it is now it is unfair when you compare it ot the allied scope.
Even without zeroing the German scope is just as good as the Brit one Actually I like it more. I hate all the talk about dumbing down the Sniping rifles. If they do that everyone will be able to shoot anyone. The Sniper has more shooting skill than regular infantry. By dumbing down the rifle, anyone can use the rifle effectively which causes major problems.
A sniper in this game is supposed to be a scout before a rifleman. He sits ahead of his team (usually in tough spots) spotting armor and aircraft and keeping Gunners and arty from being effective. Occasionally he is also given the pleasure of hunting fellow snipers.
Now if you let anybody grab that rifle, first thing they will do is sit around trying to increase their kill count and forgetting to help the team out of tough situations.
-If you can't stay close to an enemy base without feeling the need to charge it and take it Don't take the kit it doesn't work well for up close and personal work. Let a sniper get close spot the base and remove people from arty positions. He/she will tell you where everyone is and whether or not its a good idea to charge with tanks.
-If you can't hit someone further than with an Unscoped rifle don't use it.
-If you can't Hit an MG nest from further than they can accurately hit you don't take it.
- If you cant use natural camoflage don't take it.
- If routinely being about 2 feet from an enemy tank or infantryman bothers you enough to get you to give away your position don't take it.
-If you don't ever get best scout or best K/D ratio don't take it.
-If you think you can blow up a tank with it.....
-If you like shooting standing up dont take it.
-If you complain about the accuracy of the weapon don't take it.
I never use tanks Why? Because I'm not good with them and I know there are people with better tanking tactics out there then I have. I'm not going to take the best tank we have and drive it to my doom when I know there is someone on my team who can completely own the other team with it.
What if we laser-ized the Tank guns? Exact same thing would happen. people who arn't able to use tanks properly on the battlefield will take them score a bunch of kills and do absolutely nothing for their team. Great everyone will be much better at using the weapon but be shitty at using the "Kit".
I counted 2 or 3 people since I've been playing that have impressed me with their skill with the Scoped weapons. That is exactly how it should be.
