I suggest we remove these weapons all together for the sake of realism. when you have 4 guys running around in a house with knives, all sense of realism is lost. Same goes when some person with a rifle keeps missing, insta-switches to his knife and guts the guy with the smg.
Its lame, and its stupid, and its not realistic. If a soldier ran out of ammo, or had a jammed weapon while fighting close up, he would either plant the butt of his rifle in the enemies face, jab him with his bayonet, or cry for their mother and hide in a corner. They would not take the time to sling their rifle on their back, take out their knife, and charge the enemy with it.
I hear your "but when I’m sneaking.." argument coming. But frankly I don’t care, and I’ll explain why. 90% of the time, people do not use their knife because they don’t want to be heard, but rather they are just doing it for the sake of it, its a fps thing, some sort of chest beating "lolz, i knifed u, i r teh win n00b!" thing. This crap should have no place in FH2 what so ever, I’m sick and tired of it, enough already!
So here is my suggestion. Remove knives as a weapon, introduce bayonets, rifle butt action. Or.. Keep knives, but increase unholstering time greatly, and reduce rof by a lot, make it a one hit kill anywhere in the torso from close up only. You can still sneak and knife all you want, but its going to take timing and it would become a near useless offensive weapon. Just like it should be, this e-peen stroking by knifing people when you could have shot them has gone on long enough.
I think certain classes should still have knives. For example I don't think the officer class should have the knives, but the rifleman class should. just because they were the frontline troops, so they are more into getting their hands dirty.
Won't FH2 have close combat actions on nearly all weapons?
Will there also be the ability to peer around corners and to rifle but someone?
I fully agree with Raptor's post..
When troops would have encountered a sniper, they wouldn't wait to grab out there knife and stab him, they threated them on a nice bullet in the back of there skulls.
Soldiers will have bayonets, so there is no more real reason for soldiers to have knives imo.
as much as i like kniving people, i have to agree, the kniving ingame now has gone way overboard. i think knives should be way more effective when used from behind someone (back stabby), and nearly useless when facing someone face to face. i dont think we should drop knives all together, but they definately need to be reworked. btw, BF2 kniving is far more realistic and difficult to use then FH1 knives.
Although one of the stickys seems to be already covering this topic and many others about FH2, I agree. Let's save the knives for squeezing butter on loafs of bread.
Now where's that post from McGibs...ah here it is:http://forums.filefront.com/showpost.php?p=2547341&postcount=9.:bows: Thats the plan so far so it sort of agrees w/raptor's second thought. I hate the 10ft. knives of FH1 so far  , and like raptor said, knives were rarely used in combat. Knives were really meant for (surprise) cutting materials. Like paratroopers cutting the cords off of their chutes to either get free, or acquire some strong string if they needed it. Basically the knife was meant for the soldier to have an easier time living in the foxholes.
I think the animation to kill someone with a knife should take longer... like grabbing the guy and stabbing him then having to struggle to pull the knife out... or cupping his mouth and an animation of slowly cutting across the throat... would take a few seconds instead of simply slashing the person twice to death in a matter of two seconds. It would also make it less likely for one person to be able to knife multiple people in the same vicinity that quickly... but I don't know how difficult those animations would be to manage.
Completely agree, I hope we'll have decent melee attacks that don't involve knifing. I would love to be able to attach a bayonet to my rifle, it's something I missed alot in FH1 and is a great advantage for a rifleman when rushing a fortified position.
