I imagine this question has come up before, but I couldn't find a thread on it. Sorry if this is a repeat...

I understood there was a limitation in the BF2 engine to have large ships that could be piloted and have people walking on deck. Maybe this is because BF2 was meant as mostly a ground/air game with only large stationary ships, (like carriers), that would launch jets, helos, and small boats.

Is this right? Will FH2 have ships like in FH? Or will FH2 be limited as we see in BF2 vanilla?

FH2 already has a working submarine, dont see why you couldnt have a big ship.

I'm probably confused. I had recalled reading something about when the ship moves people on deck get killed as if the ship ran into them. It had to do with collision handling in the engine. Something with clipping or other object interaction. Maybe I have my game engines confused.

If people are in mounted positions like in a skiff, it is not a problem. This is why in BF2 you don't just jump into the skiff and walk around the deck. You have to be in one of the "seats". The issue is with players walking freely on the decks of large ships that are moving.

One of the patches makes it so you won't get killed anymore but I thought I heard that it is still really hard to walk around on a vehicle because it makes you want to slide off.

I'm sure the devs will find either a way to get it to work or a way around it.

I'm also wondering if it would be possible to walk on a larger ships deck (carrier/battlehip) type while it is cruising. I'm sure bigger ships than a submarine are possible and I think I saw a small naval warfare mod a while ago which included a couple of funky looking ships. They merged with BF1918/2 if I remember correctly.

i just hope to god they overcome that damn annoying sliding around on the collision mesh thingie in the bf42 engine. trying to walk on a moving ship is like playing with ungodly lag. just gives me a headache

Perhaps lag issues, depending on the poly count of the model and the detail of its texture. Sheer size could lag servers, too.

I found some clips (from the Battlship mod) that may answer some questions asked on this thread: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1845365857577424736
