I am not a real fan of people opening their parachutes 10 feet off the ground to avoid being seen. I think a great way of solving this would be to somehow make it so it takes like 3 seconds or so before the parachute completely slows you down. This will force people to open their parachutes earlier. It will also prevent people from using parachutes to jump off rooftops or down hills.

I realize that near the end of FH1 only the pilot class could use the parachute on most maps, and I thought this was a great feature, but on some maps that rely heavily on paratroopers, it would be nice to have a more realistic parachuting mechanic.

I really liked how FH1 did "operation market garden", where at some spawn points you would start in a parachute. It would be even cooler if there was a way to make it so you couldn't jump out of a plane like a c47 WITHOUT immediately deploying a parachute.

I haven't figured out a way to prevent the pilot from doing something idiotic and killing 20 of his own guys (i.e. Crete). I guess the way to do it would be to make sure there are always at least a few transport planes so that you can at least choose who your pilot is.

for crete just make the runway longer a good idea, though... in FH machine guns of tanks is so accurate if you open parachute too fast you will get shot in the sky, lol

I know that the airborne assualt troops always had their chutes open when they jumped out of the tranposrt plane. There was a static line in the kit that was attached to inside the plane itself, but they had a spare pull feature in case that didn't work. So I think its pretty safe to say it wasn't a tactic for airborne troops to open late to avoid detection. Pilots on the other hand would have so much addrenalin they would open as soon as possible also being untrained in practice dives. Since FH2 may lock airplanes to only those with pilot kits, it may be possbile to code the chute to open straight away when you jump. Dev's?

I like that idea. Here's a suggestion on how to do it:

Someone mentioned the idea of giving people kits when they enter certain vehicles (i.e. when you enter a tank, you become a tanker, that sort of thing.)

IF that's possible, why not do the same for parachute infantry? When you enter a C-47 or equivalent, you become a paratrooper? Maybe (again, if it's possible, no clue) you could have more control over forcing people's chutes to open when they jump...

I would rather see pilot be a class then. Otherwise peple will be waiting around for a kit to spawn and THEN getting a plane.

That gets my vote!

Anyway if you can make jumping out of a C47 force them to have a static parachute line then I'm all for that. The sad thing is even with 3ft parachute drops paratroopers are more or less worthless. You're usually landing 5 guys within visual contact of an enemy who are 90% in tanks.

I think if the parachute deployment took longer (3 seconds or so) you would not have to worry about coding some complicated static line auto parachute deployment thing.

Longer deployment would also get rid of people being blown 50 feet into the air, surviving and deploying their parachute and floating safely to the ground, or just using a chute to jump off buildings. Seriously I thought that was just a vanilla/dc thing but a few night ago on market garden I saw 4 people use it to avoid death.

Just wondering, anyone know if in FH your player still releases his bowels if you free fall long enough?

absolutly not! I mean, you can spawn as infantry... "oh a plane, let's fly".... "damn flying is difficult, let's jump with my parashute just above that tank"... "Nice tank! let's repair it with my tank-kit". For me this is pure arcade-style gameplay that we get in bf42/bf2

This is exactly the point of FH. You shoose to enter the battle as a pilot: so you get a shute and get some advantages (save your live by jumping). But don't expect to enter a tank to rule the ground.
