I have a good time on stalingrad. So instead of jsut ''scrapping'' it just because it is a tad unrealistic is pretty stupid to me. I'd rather play and have fun than not be able to play just because it isn't ''realistic''.

Stalingrad was a huge percentage of the second world war, actually. Huge as in a battle lasting longer than any battle at the west front, with continuous fighting in more or less the same geographical location. Glancing sideways at Red Orchestra, that has several Stalingrad maps, I don't see why we don't make more Stalingrad maps. OH and I absolutely love Pavlov, BTW! I hope to see some Krasjnyi Oktyabr, Karlovka and Stalingrad Kessel - Operation Blau maps in the future FH :)

EDIT: Suggestion - make a separate Stalingrad theatre of war. Call it "The Stalingrad Academy of Street Fighting" because that was what the soviet generals called it.

... ever tried to use the mortars when playing as allied ?? if used properly it can stop the german mortar threat with ease. The mortar guys of both sides can keep each other busy - i think it's your own fault if you wan't to play FH like CoD, which in case many many people do. It's very balanced, if you use the given equipment properly on this map. I think it's not the devs problem if people just use their spinal cord instead of their brain to play - preferring easy kills instead of a tactical advantage for the team (yes you will kill more people on pegasus if you fire into the town instead of the german mortar site, but stopping the german mortars from firing by counter-firing will help your team, maybe something to think about).

personally i like the stalingrad map, i have fun no matter what side i play usually. as long as i have a half descent team on my side, that is. as far as realism goes, there was fighting over every square inch of stalingrad, for what 2 yrs was it? the battles shifted all over the city. so staging a battle at any urban locale, represented in a map, is to a point realistic. so the maps not that unrealistic. basically you could make any urban style map with tons of rubble, and easily call it a stalingrad map. and there was a locale in stalingrad at the volga river, similar to this locale. and it was the location that the russian reinforcements entered the city during the siege. did a battle happen exactly as represented in this map, who knows. what goes on in this map battle wise, was an everyday occurance IRL at stalingrad. so to say its completely unrealistic isnt true. its no more unrealistic then any other map.

i just want to go off topic and say the book "enemy at the gates" by William Craig is totally awesome and a bazillion times better than the movie...

Although it really has nothing to do with the fact if there is a similar CoD map, i have to agree that Pegasus Bridge is a little unbalanced. It can be a lot of fun, but sometimes i just find myself absolutely immobilized (together with the rest of my team) by mortar fire. I've had 50+ deaths on that map.

Rent_A_Cop I just think that stalingrad and pavlov, were not like that, historicall, and I know enough about the Eastern Front so dont lecture me about it.

Yeah, I bet you are an real expert on the Eastern Front...

You dont actually belive at some point Russians had to cross the Volga and attack the German positions, even if they had placed MGs there...?

And Pavlov...to be honest, I dont realy know too much about it. But seeing these pictures, made me think the FH version is pretty close to the real one:

But since you're the expert, I guess you can lecture us about how its supposed to be!

Stalingrad, plays like crap, not to mention historical bullshit, there was never a "suicide charge up a hill against 7 MG42s" that is in that map

Really? Sorry, I never knew that.....

Just, please, no, they have no place in FH, they just....suck, really. Please, no more.

Well, I like these "CoD" maps, they're pretty fun. More fun than the DICE maps, anyways.....I'd say CoD Stalingrad is better than DICE Stalingrad.

a sewer under the map would be nice

Unfortunately, this would only be possible in BFV. BF1942 and BF2 don't support underground stuff.

Why don't they use historical battles instead of stealing things from games and movies?!

Omaha Beach wasn't a historical battle?

However, it really helps to put an ounce or two of politeness, gratitude, and courtesy into your posts.

True, true.

If you can do better, make your own maps.

That argument sucks.

I just think that stalingrad and pavlov, were not like that, historicall

I'm pretty sure Pavlov's House was, not sure about the whole "Stalingrad charge up the bank" though. You're right, that was probably made up.

Call it "The Stalingrad Academy of Street Fighting" because that was what the soviet generals called it.

Wonder how many people graduated?

for what 2 yrs was it?

I think it was one year, half of 1942 and half of 1943.

i just want to go off topic and say the book "enemy at the gates" by William Craig is totally awesome and a bazillion times better than the movie...

Agreed. "Enemy at the Gates" was the hollywood version of Stalingrad, just like "Pearl Harbor" was the hollywood version of Pearl Harbor. In my opinion, the counterparts to these movies, "Stalingrad" and "Tora Tora Tora", do a much better job of focusing on the battle rather than some mawkish love triangle that has nothing to do with the war.

Actually, it does. Desert Combat ("DC Somewhere Outskirts"), Galactic Conquest ("GC Hoth"), Secret Weapons ("SW That Alpine Map"), and various other modifications all have underground stuff (and yes, I'm horrible at remembering map names). You just make a ditch and put a static ceiling over it, and static terrain over that again.

That argument sucks [The "if you can do better, make your own map"-argument, for context]

Gooey%20Paste%20Thank%20You.jpg Have a drink:smokin:.

Anyway, now that the thread starter has taken back what he said and apologized, I think maybe this thread can be closed? Or that we at least can stop telling him he's wrong (as in, "stop kicking the dead horse";))?

There were Soviets already in Stalingrad and they didn't invade it like it was Normandy. Early in war the Soviets only crossed the Volga to bring supplies and reinforcements with only one or two boats at a time because Germany had air superioty over Stalingrad. Later bridges were build which were used for the attack and the city was surrounded. FH Pavlov's house is close, but could use some work. Schoolkid like Safe Keeper stated unground objects are possible in BF1942 even FH has some like the mine, cellar, and that costal gun on Gold Beach. They are probably possible in BF2 and BFV.
