Has anyone made the Battle of Midway from scratch? It's my favorite Pacific map as it has ground battle, naval battle, and air combat. The FH version is even better. However, a few things bother me, mainly that the Midway Atoll starts off neutral. Where's the historical accuracy in that? I'd rather see the Atoll start off as American and have the American fleet start much farther away than the Japanese fleet and/or give the Japanese more tickets than the Americans. That way, there'd be some fighting before aerial and naval reinforcements started to show up. But I think a better idea would be to re-make the whole battle from scratch, maybe even with the Japanese carriers and Midway Atoll's radar station as some sort of objective that you need to destroy to get some sort of reward (maybe you could use the "flak radar" from Vanilla's Battle of Britain's map?). Have anyone re-made Midway yet? And are there any plans to do so if no one has?

Dime_a_DozenI'm afraid my remake of Midway is going to break a lot of hearts sad%20%28frown%29.gif

So apparantly it is in the works. Best thing about current Midway is the combination of sea and air battle. And of course it's always fun to assault the ground flags as infantry And a quick googling brought me this http://www.sunwest-emb.com/wiseman/bmidwa8jpg.jpg Edit: all links screwed up..

Good link, that. The page that hosts the picture is indeed very interesting, too: http://www.sunwest-emb.com/wiseman/bmidway.htm. It has a lot of information, including why the battle happened, which ships participated in the battle itself, and what happened during the battle. Oh, and another picture: Image14.gif After looking at that map, and comparing it to the virtual Midway in Battlefield 1942, I can do nothing but shake my head at how inaccurate DICE managed to make it. I'd love to see the real Midway Atoll in the game just the way it is: With the canal, the sea planes, the terrain, the tiny sand banks (or whatever they are) dotting the shore, and the sea planes parked in the lagoon. If it means the atoll needs to be far bigger than the Vanilla one, so be it: There will still be plenty of space for ships to maneover. The downside, of course, is that it'll make the atoll harder to defend against attack. Anyway, I'm looking forward to that news post! Keep up the good work:smokin:! By the way, do anyone know why they built a bi-canal leading to the air field (see the map posted by Maxa)?

I'm guessing it would be to offload land-based fighter aircraft (were there any P-40/P-39 there?), or aviation fuel/ordnance directly into storage, without having to transport it from the main dock.

This one, right? It looks pretty good, actually. That battery of four AA guns near the shore should discourage most Japanese pilots:smokin:. The only thing I dislike is how bombers "spawn" on the runway. While I guess there's not room for them not to, it means it'll be harder to land to repair and re-arm. But it's OK, I guess, as long as there's an "unobstructed" runway. And I guess I can land OK anyhows. OK, so I got the wrong impression from Maxa's map. So... most of the stuff of Midway is submerged (the "Shoals" or whatever it is on Maxa's picture), but too shallow for boats? And what's the "foul ground" on the map? I'm confusedconfusedx.gif. Sigh. Why do you Americans need to make your atolls so complicated? Re-posts of screens from that thread: EasternIsland_Midway_44.jpg And USMC-M-Midway-1.gif I'm unsure as to how flags should be. It seems more historically accurate that they are not in, but the Japanese tried to take the atoll, so actually it is more accurate to have the flags, ask you me. I got the impression that it won't have flag capturing, though, from that other thread. I'm just glad it's not me making that map. Too many tough decisionswinkx.gif.

In a strategic sense, the Japanese tried to take Midway, but in a tactical sense, (which is where FH sits) the air/naval attacks are separate from the actual invasion. (which never happened) Similar to the reason why Omaha Beach doesn't have BB or air bombardment.

I think that would be one of the best FH maps ever.
