another one, then I'll shut up for the day. Title says it all; I'd love to see more supporting aerial units in FH2. Most of these have been brought up before, but I thought I'd try to collate them in one thread. These include:
-Scout/spotting planes -Transports (both heavy and light) -Gliders -Recon units
We currently have the L4 on several maps; it's a fun plane to fly, and can be very useful. It's the sort of plane that could be put on many non-aerial maps; for example, a scout plane on Nordwind or Aberdeen would really add to the gameplay. Examples include the Fi-156 Storch, the L-4 Piper, the Miles M.38 Messenger and the Kokusai Ki-76 "Stella", or maybe even the Focke-Achgelis Fa-330 Bachstelze if someone's feeling adventurous (used on subs and merchantmen in the Mediterranean and North Sea.)
Name says it. More Ju-52, C-47, and equivalent for paradrops. Remember the mobile C-47 spawn point in Secret Weapons / Mimoyecques? You spawned inside the plane, then had to jump out, so it was a mix of the Market Garden and Foy C-47s (plus it actually had to be piloted.) It'd be a lot more fun for airborne maps than a static para spawn point that can be raped. Maps like Crete already have this, so good good good. However, it'd also be neato if someone felt like putting in a light single-engined transport (could be combined with the above scout/liaison plane.)
Already exists, in kit form in Sector 318. Great fun, very useful, and far far far too rare. There were a ton of glider-drop missions in WWII, primarily in Western Europe on the Allied side, but also by Germans in Belgium, Crete and the Eastern Front (notably the DFS-230.) Please re-do this kit for FH2, and put more of them in.
* Recon units:
What to do with the UAV? Variants of this were recently in discussion in at least 2 separate threads. A visual-only recon kit, like the current bomber kit but without offensive weaponry, and with more maneuverability, for use by the commander would be my proposed solution, but I'm sure there are other ways about it. Anyway, some sort of airborne battlefield spotting, whether it gives the commander static snaps of the battlefield or actually lets him see in real time what's going on, would be great.
The upshot of all this is that air units needn't always be fighters or bombers; in fact, I'd love to see maps that only have passive/support air units (like infantry or tanker maps.)
I take what n0e says way too seriously

you probably shouldnt call it a UAV, turns FHers off.
That's right. It's an MAV.
I think that in place of that UAV in BF2, the commander could choose for one of those scout planes to spawn, and someone would actually have to pilot it themselves, and when it flies around the map, enemies become visible in the minimap, or maybe only to radiomen (if we have them)and the commander.
Not too crazy about the "magic eye". And I don't have a valid alternative, Other than the standard binocs.
But totally agreed about gliders. I wish we could have spawned in a bunch of gliders in Pegasus. I think it could have been done, a very skinny map at its southern end to keep the smacktards from going east or west, and have the gliders spawn with only enough altitude to get to the landing spot.
We need an all glider map, just like how Crete is an all paratrooper map.
It would be awesome if there was a map with a virtual/AI crew in a transport plane, from which you could spawn in and jump out.

Do i smell my beloved Eben-Emael?:naughty:

Nah, I'll stick to Crete for gliders... ;)

Really cool idea! <3 <3 <3, ditch UAV, have commander-spawned pilotable scout planes!
