Can we have the British flamethrower that was shaped sort of like a life buoy/donut. it contained 10 shots. Can we also have you able to shoot gas without lighting it so you could for example, create like a temporary ring of fire around a flag. like this situation: You run up to the flag, suddenly, a burst of fire from a nearby flamethrower lights up a ring of gas around the flag, stopping you in your tracks. Could you also be able to shoot the gas to light it maybe? Also could we have if you shoot the gas container of a guy that has a flamethrower, he will become engulfed in flames, along with the people near him?

Because you saw this in Shaving Ryans Privates?

No.

No, that's not realistic.

I will leave the much argued about "flame throwers blowing up" argument to others. In general though, thinking of new features based on odd stuff that might have been done in RL somewhere a few times (or maybe not), by using the weapon in an unorthodox way is futile. Weapons in games, at the present time" are not coded so as to closely simulate their RL counterparts. There is no such thing as "fire" or "flammable materials" or gasoline in BF2. Intead we have kits, projectiles and particle effects. Much of the behavior you describe would require a physics and materials system that is light years ahead of any game I know of. Possibly some kind of "creative workaround" would be possible, but we usually try not to drive the coders insane on creative workaround to create oddball features for weapons that are very rare, even on the few maps in which they appear at all. Indded, flamethrowers in BF1942 were a creative workaround to begin with. A better way is to think of things that already occur in the game, in some other context, and figure out an new context in which to apply it. The bagel shaped flamethrower might be a possibility, I will leave that to Taranov to decide.

Flamethrowers blowing up was debunked completely, utterly and entirely by an expert on the matter in a previous thread.

will there be a better damage system with the FH2 flamethrowers? Presently in FH, being killed bya flamethrower is just as big of a diss as being knifed. Theres no splash or peripheral damage involved, its basically a rifle type weapon. Im really happy with what we've got, just some minor improvements

i think the biggest problem with flamethrowers is once it hits the ground you can run right thro it, hopfully this well be fixed in BF2 so that if ant smart to run thro a fire

I love the United Offensive flamethrowers. They are extreamly effective because when it hits a wall it spreads out a bit so it can acually be used to clear bunkers, like they are intended to be used. Plus if you use the flamethrower improperly you wil llikely kill yourself.

I think we need a Mythbuster episode before people will stop suggesting this idea.

LOL with the hot red haired chick!!! Ya gotta admit, the coding of it, just being actually able to do it is pretty cool, like mortars and blowing up barbed wire and such. Just shows us how capable those silly devs truly are. Only thing is, it seems to be able to destroy tanks pretty quick. Add this to the mythbusters episode.
