Ok so in BoB and BtR you are tasked with blowing up factories. In BF2 you can blow up bridges. Put two and two together and I think you could get a fantastic map. Imagine Remagen where the Germans are tasked with blowing up the bridge by placing charges near the center and the Allies have to reach the end of the bridge and hold it agianst the Germans. This would also work for maps based on Market Garden and other river crossings.

The only problem I could think of is that you would somehow have to make it so only the center of the bridge, or maybe multiple positions on the bridge, have to be blown up to keep the map from ending too quickly.

You wouldn't even have to make it an objective based map. You just have a map where there are two riverbanks and a large bridge connecting the two. If the Allies can't capture the bridge they have to assualt with LVTs against entrenched Germans.

I'd love to see more objective-based maps. I really like a lot of the FH maps, but some more variety in terms of what you're actually supposed to "accomplish" (besides getting the other guy's tickets to reach 0) would be nice. Midway, BtR and BoB are already great in this way, and the hardcore push maps (Saipan, Berlin Streets) are a variation on this idea, but there's gotta ways besides capping flags or bombing targets to do this (probably most of them involve blowing something up anyway.)

Possibilities would be Secret Weapons-type objective maps (blow up the prototype/bunker/whatever), Nighthawk's idea about bridges, tunnels, fortresses, whatever.

More mission variety than blowing stuff up? That would be kind of difficult for WWII unfortunately, since most missions had the intention of destroying something of the enemy. Personally, I would like to see more pushmode, and maybe a few more "blow stuff up" maps; maybe we could do one that's NOT air based. It would be cool to have a tank column pushing across a map towards a city, or something like that.

Forget big armies! :p I think commando maps would be great! In North Africa this could be LRDG missions. These would be nighttime maps where Allies start with trucks and jeeps, possibly in a random point in the desert to ensure a surprise attack. Their objectives could be to destroy planes/fuel tanks/runways/bridges/bunkers/ships/radios etc etc which are guarded by the Axis. What would be great on these night maps would be searchlights and flare guns. If you don't want to blow stuff up then maybe a one-sided "capture the flag" mode could be possible. Although instead of the flag something like plans/documents/fuel tanker vehicles or even a static officer/general figure could be used. These would have to be captured by the attackers while the defenders try to stop them... Any thoughts?

I watched this old ww2 movie a while back and it took place in the desert at night.some british where trying to stop some huge arty guns in bunkers and did,but then the germans found out and came in like 70 tanks.some thing like that would be cool like germans have a bunch of tanks and try to take some british bunkers at night while british have to blow up the bridge needed for germans to cross:D :smokin: .

I like the idea of the static officer/general.it could be a objective to kill the officer/general for allies and axis has to guard him while fending off the british.:naughty:

The night raid map idea sounds really cool, but it'd have to be dark enough so that people can actually sneak around. Would really add alot of suspense to the map, you could be looking out into the desert while guarding the objective, and looking right at a squad of enemy soldiers, probing the perimeter for enemy defences, but since it was so dark, you couldn't see them from the distance they were at. Spotlights and flareguns would play a big rule in the map like Mr. Cheese said. The only real big problem I could think of is that people could just be cheap and turn the brightness on their moniters up really high, illuminating the battlefield for them.

Or it could be very frustrating, continuously being shot in the dark and having no idea where its coming from.

If muzzle flashes were prominent enough (I dont think they are in BF2 night maps), perhaps it would be doable.

But the defenders would have the advantage that they know what the attackers are going for... unless there would be a way to keep it sectret! :naughty:

I just got an idea from reading the V1 rocket thread about objective gameplay. The allies have to destory various rockets and vengence weapons located in a German bunker complex. Outside the complex the map would play like Aplenfestung where the allies have to push to the bunker and Germans get their superweapons to defend with. Then when the allies reach the bunker they get a flag that the Germans can not recap and have to enter the bunker and destroy the objectives while the germans defend them from inside.
