Myrddraal1 question: Does anyone have the actual numbers for a % of tanks in world war 2 that were taken out by infantry held AT weapons? I can't find actual numbers or values but it seems in my searches to be quite low. Most tanks that were taken out were done by field guns and aircraft. In general it seems that AT Inf were only a last ditch, nothing else is availible option . . . . . In FH they are a first choice assaulting weapon.
I seem to recall Bow posting the number of russian tanks taken out by panzerfausts, was something like 100-200 total in the war
Actually I believe it wa Terminal Strike and we had some argue to the death discussions on the numbers.
Terminal Strike felt they were not very effective and I said they were.
This site: http://www.geocities.com/augusta/8172/panzerfaust4.htm says that out of 12,541 enemy tanks reported destroyed, only about 350 were reported to have been destroyed by Panzerfaust or Panzerschreck. In the paragraph immediately below the chart the author admits that it is very possible the almost 3950 enemy tanks unaccounted for as to cause of destruction could very easily have been destroyed by Panzerfausts and Panzerschrecks and the soldier never reported it due to capture or KIA.
link doesn't work
It does for me. that site does however quite often exceed it bandwidth. wonder if it is weekly, or daily bandwidth? great resource, though.
Yes, probably bandwith exceeded for the site when I tried.
It works now, and I am amazed
That is a wonderful source of information (surprised by the number of tanks taken out by hand grenade!), it does seem to show that currently in FH hand held AT weapons account for a substantially larger % of tank kills then in real life, although I have to say that this is in large part due to there being no fear of death and there for attacks can be much more reckless.
Well, you are seeing two things that would boost the percentage of kills per AT weapon:
1. More tanks per map than in real life. 2. No fear of death. Cases where a guy would run out into a swarm of tanks with a Panzerschrek in real life were rare, in FH, they are frequent.
ExelFirst, if they're all anti-tankers then they'll be at a severe disadvantage to your SMG and MG troopers. If your team doesn't have any either, well, that's just stupid behaviour, nothing new on public servers.
Second, what the hell do you expect if you drive into an urban area with a tank?! Orel is an infantry heavy map, the tanks are there for support. Without accompanying infantry you should stay outside the city or if you rush in, at least accept the fact that you can be fausted at any time.
... so why do you think there'd be any infantry support on a pub game? ;) Thing is, like discussed above, VERY few tanks (comparatively) were destroyed by fausts in the real war. In the game, it's like at least 50% on some maps. Even though there are more tanks compared to infantry in real life, it's just plain wrong that well over half the team is AT capable on basically ANY map with fausts. Engineers and fausters make up most of an axis team on nearly any map with tanks. Imagine if every Finn had been loaded with satchels, fausts etc in '44.
Beast of War9.5 million german troops used in 6 years of war in WWII.......only 7 million panzerfausts produced in 3 years. On top of that 60 % of production went to the Volkssturm, German homeguard units. Every german soldier could have had less then 1/4 a panzerfaust in the whole war. That is how "plentifull" available they really were......
Does that 9.5 million refer to the number of German troops? Or the number of German front-line infantry? Also, for the purpose of that comparison, you would only be able to use German infantry serving after the introduction of the Panzerfausts in question, not the entire 6 years of the war.
