stylie;3390664Personally I love it. However the Water Buffaloes ruin Charlie sector. I think it spreads the allies out and consequently Allies can never get over the cliffs. Lets face it FH1 is dying a slow painfully slow death (But'd die quickly with an FH2 release...) I like SSM because a little variety is alot of fun!!!
Conversely, there are those that like the Maps (the dedicated FH Maps especially) in as close to the original state as possible (as the Devs intended). The SSM that Fuzz Bunn is talking about involves making Maps that have "glitches" in them playable: Like Foy's problem with the German Engie-Kit, or the underwater Flags on Rheinuenbung. The Maps in question would have to be dropped from the map-rotation due to the glitches/disconnects/hairpulling/teethgnashing/wristslashing that would occur otherwise...
-Adding a flag in the N. village on El Alamein (not actually played this one, but it sounds like an ace idea.)

I've played it Buzzy. The "north" flag has been re-located to the abandoned Village in the northwest corner. The "east" flag has been re-located to the abandoned Village to the north of the old "east" position (east of the "north " flag). If I remember correctly: A spawn is created both at the "east" position, and the new flag-cap location in the Village (In that case only: I don't remember a spawn being created at the old "north" position when the northeast Village-flag is capped). The SSM'd Map is biased toward German Victory: In addition to the flag-relocations which make the flags easier for the Germans to dominate they also get a Tiger, and a Puma to add to their Arsenal. The Puma is obviously the kicker: I've seen it used to cap the two new flag-locations right at the start. It's speed, and fire-power make it deadly enough to be reckoned with (even the Shermans have a tough time with it). A Tiger? History alone precludes such nonsense (for a "purist"...): At least try to stick with vehicles that WERE employed at that time... The Brits do get their usual compliment of equipment (The Daimler, or BGC's can get up to the new north location quickly); but the northeast flag is nearly a guaranteed German flag for the Map duration... I have seen some OTHER things done that interest me though: The Brits having a couple of extra 6 lbr AT guns at Arnhem for example...

'[BC Tex Arcana;3391860']*bad things*

The thing about the North El Al flag just intrigued me because it has the potential of including more of the map in the game. You may recall me writing that I never actually played that particular SSM.

As for it making the map German-biased, and including nonsense vehicles, that was exactly my point. Instead of saying, "no SSMs at all", any and all map changes have to wait until the next release, I think it'd be great if the dev team would say "ok, let the mapper look at the SSM if you have a concrete change done and think it's a good idea" and, if it's not completely stupid, sort of give it a stamp of approval.

To be honest, I'd also love some variety in the same map on different servers, as long as that variety doesn't come at the expense of ruining balance or gameplay--get my drift?

Thats perfect logic. As I have said we are in FH1's dying days. Lets have some fun with it.

If you pay for the server do whatever the hell you want with it. I've seen some rather poor SSM's and I've seen some good ideas as well. Those who don't like it shouldn't play it. I never understood why people get their pantyz all in a bunch over it.

Easy--two reasons. First, and in the absence of a "license" with FH, the lesser, you create something and some idiot who decides Eastern Blitz needs a Tiger because D00D teh GERMANS r TEH 1337Z0r!!111 pisses all over it.

Second, because FH is a historical accuracy mod and it's shit if people show up and see, I dunno, Tigers in Eastern Blitz.

There are, IMHO, plenty of legit ways of altering a map to fix gameplay, balance and accuracy issues. I'm trying to propose a compromise here, mmkay?

Which can be easily avoided by simply playing on a different server. Vote with your absence.

Yeah. If you don't like the SSM, just move on. Mods are basically glorified GPL anyway, and as long as they aren't SSM'ing the maps to say, "Designed by Rono!" they can do whatever the hell they like.

It would be polite if they stuck "SSM" in the server name, but even that is just politeness. You can't stop people from SSM'ing without stopping everyone from being able to mod period. I know which route I'd rather take.

And FuzzyBunny has a good idea, but it won't stop SSM.

I didn't want to stop SSM, I was trying to figure out a way to encourage "good SSM", as in a way of easily differentiating community "updates" to maps that don't suck from those that do :-(

Guess the concept is too abstruse, I'll drop the idea.
