Don't know if this has been posted on before so keep with me. I first read about this operation in one of my favorite books 'None But The Valiant' by Graeme Cook. It involved a British commando raid on the Normandie dry dock at the french port of St. Nazaire using a modified destroyer by the name of HMS Campbelltown. Explosives were packed in the hall of the ship and it was then rammed into the dock but not before a large battle entering the port. There were also a large number of small patrol boats and a motor gunboat and MTB that the British used as escorts and transports to land more commandos to take out the submarine pens in the port. If done correctly this could be an amazing map for FH2, and it takes place at night (tracers flying every which way, awesome.) For more info i'd suggest trying to get a copy of None But The Valiant, although im sure there is info on the internet on the battle as well.

Could you describe what sort of objective you want for this map? Do you want players to have to force a destroyer into the docks? Do players need to destroy the docks? I'm not following how you would want the map set up for gameplay.

Well, forcing a destroyer into drydocks as a spawn point would be a cool start.

Then, blowing up sub pens as objectives would be pretty cool.

I hope we start seeing far more objective-type maps in FH2 anyway.

There was an Operation Chariot map in an old fan map pack. It didn't have any fancy features but it was fun to play.

The German officer was interigating the Captain of the Campbletown, saying that it was a crap idea to try and ram the dock with a poor ship, and after that the explosives went off, lol.

I have a whole slew of pics and maps of the dock area and surrounding town, and have been wanting to map this one for awhile. although it would require quite a few custom objects and buildings. :D the best part is the whole map blows up at the end, no matter who wins or loses. lol

Yeah the objective of the map would be for the British to destory the Normandie dock and the sub pens. I guess the map could be set up with at least one German uncap flag, another flag near the shore for the brits to capture and maybe another flag somewhere. Brits would spawn on the HMS Campbelltown and the escorting craft at the beginning of the map and then go for their objectives. Or have no flags, im not sure what the best way to go about it would be.

I actually wondered about this--has anyone ever managed (or tried) to link the map countdown timer to, say, a ticking bomb, as in an obsolete British destroyer packed with explosives? So at the end it goes kerblooey; if Allies have managed to position it correctly at one of the objectives, that is won, if not the Axis win?

Just a thought; I don't recall anyone ever mentioning time-based objective maps.
