i totally trust citizen soldier, senordingdong and the rest to do a great sound job, but this new sound effect for bf2 came across my web browser.
it adds the lifelike "cracking/popping" sound of a near-miss bullet. IT IS NOT MUZZLE SOUND BUT THE SOUND OF THE BULLET BREAKING THE SOUND BARRIER. (on a related note, thats why spec ops use sub-sonic ammo, neato!). it really turns up the adrenaline and gets your heart pumping when you're under supressive fire. i think firefights would be INFINITELY more intense with this effect, and i trust the fh devs can either code this on their own, or ask to borrow the effect from the main creator.
also, this might be a dangerous question to ask, but i just wanted a clear answer to the question "are you guys gonna replace the ambient/whizzing bullet sounds that were featured in all releases prior to .7, aka the m*rciless cr*ations sound effects?". those really really really added to the immersion, and it was definitly noticable when i first booted up .7. the battlefield was eerily quiet.
and lastly, not a sound question, but are you guys gonna tweak the ragdoll effects for bf2, or is that hardcoded. it is impossibly realistic to kill a guy and automatically watch him snap into the "T" model pose, and flop around on the ground due to mis-weighted joints on the model and such. tell me you guys can make a more realistic death! (im even for pre-animated in this case!).
and oh, a "one-hand hold your helmet" animation while sprinting would be kickass as well.

also, the holding the helmet idea is great.
Have to admit that sound is the most annoying thing I've ever heard and just because of that, I hope it won't be implemented since I want to enjoy the sounds aswell and that sound just isn't even near enjoyable.
And just my opinion... that sound didn't make the game look/sound more intense; more of the opposite really :)
Watch both videos a couple of times and you get used to the sound and don't think it's such a bad idea afterall... Atleast that's what happened to me.

Holding the helmet while running would only be good if on a random basis... or triggered, for example, by a player having less than 75% health, if random things are so infamously impossible in BF2. It would look daft for everyone to run holding their helmet every time they sprinted out of the main base.
It sounds realy great and I trsut that realistic. I'm looking foreward to hearing it in every game.:D
I think the craking sounds crap. Reminds me more of New Years fireworks, yet not much of war.
How do can you know though how it sounds in reality? War was always far and very different from human imagination, werther on the side of meaning and values or combat itself.;)
I dont know if it's realistic, but it sure is annoying as hell, i prefer the wooshy sounds like those in BoB.
