Is it possible to include a rearview mirror in the Hurricane (and maybe other planes) cockpit? I read that they had one mounted on the forward canopy to give them a rear view without turning all the way around. This would be much better than having to hit C while trying to shake the enemy.

Again, I have no idea if this is possible or not with the engine, but it would add a nice touch to dogfighting.

I think the reason that they added c was so that they wouldn't have to make functioning mirrors. More than anything, I'd like to have just a couple working instruments on the instrument panel in all aircrafts. That's really the only thing flight is missing right now.

IRRC this was asked alreadyin another thread and Lobo said that this is not possible in the BF2 engine. While a mirror itself is possible it will only mirror a predefined texture, not the real surrounding. You can see this on the lens of the sniperscope for example.

Edit: I've found the old thread, it has some more detailed infos. http://forums.filefront.com/fh2-suggestions/356209-mirror-spitfire-hurricane.html

But here it isn't mirroring anything... What it is in actual fact is a portal that shows the viewpoint behind the pilots head. But maybe the engine still won't agree with this logic Also, can pilots be made to see all the way i.e. 90 degrees up, 135 degrees left and 135 right, for some planes with better views, even further... Do planes not kill you when you flip them upside down before bailing? Cuz currently the inertia-defying feet of wing-kills is annoying - trying to land a burning wreck seems more plausible at this point, and safer, than bailing out. A solution here may be spawning on top of the plane, but perhaps ou might get killed by the tail... Soemthing, please something Personally, I;d prefer to get chase, nosecam and a more distant rear view cuz airplanes usually operated far higher than they do with alot of miles between them and better long-range vision so these additions will cater for the lack, but as always... I can imagine Lobo saying a simple 'No' to this argument... Still hoping

you can use the mouselook for that i dont know how far you can turn your head that way but it should be enough to see everything possible to see through the canopy .

About spawning on the plane, I meant appearing after pressing exit, not kit-spawning

I love those abrupt answers... It makes discussion so progressive and bringing up ideas so rewarding

Visibility in planes is a hot button topic around here. Ideally, we should have the same amount of visibility as the pilots of those planes actually had. However there are limits to what can be done with the BF2 engine. (No mirrors for example, limited look around for another). A compromise, therefore, has to be struck. That's the way it is set up now. Whether or not this is a correct and fair balance is the aforementioned "hot button topic"...

Refractor 2 Engine can't do mirrors. The best it can do is Environment Mapping to give the illusion that the object is a "mirror" but you will never be able to perfectly reflect what is behind you. This was probably either due to laziness or lag purposes, as a Mirror that reflects the surroundings is a very complex thing in a video game, often times requiring alot of resources. The area its reflecting must constantly be copied and pasted onto the mirror, to dynamically do this with a small airplane mirror would require some hefty resources, lagging BF2 further.
