I don't know if you guys have added the M1 Garand to the 2.2 beta yet but if so, can you reload mid-clip? With this I mean not firing all the rounds and then deciding that you want a new clip. I think this is an important realism feature and also not used in many games. Earlier there was a thread about the the last round slide lock on automatic pistols, like the Luger or the P-38. Apparently this feature cannot be implemented in game because there can only be 1 (one) reloading animation per weapon. Based on this I don't think that the M1 Garand will have a last round hold open feature or the mid clip reloading feature. Engine limitations prevent this.

I really hope I am wrong.

Um well you can't top off the garand. Part of the reason for this relates to its Enblock clip.

If you mean hit the button on the side, eject the clip and rounds, and load a new 8 round enblock clip in - yes, that is possible. But once again you can't top off an M1 garand without clearing all rounds.

In a controlled environment one can top off the clip while the bolt is retracted and the enbloc clip is partially inserted into the magazine well. The op rod is pulled back. A live round is ejected and then the individual carefully presses the clip eject button, while carefully restraining the clip from popping out. Then while holding the op rod back one can top off the clip. The final part of the video demonstrates that. :naughty:

Topping off was never part of the manual of arms for the M1--this clip is purely academic.

You would never ever see that in a combat scenario. Let alone at a gun range.

With the way reloads work in bf2 (i.e. loose all ammo in the gun and load a fresh mag/clip) I think being unable to reload the M1 halfway through the magazine would be unrealistic and possibly impossible.

Well. 1 it wasnt in the manual like you said. 2. in a combat enviroment i would ask myself "should i reload in mid clip which is time comsuming and hard or should i keep shooting and let the auto ejecter handle with getting rid of the clip so i can put a fresh one in?" In a combat situation i would rather take the easy way cuz atleast if im rushed i can get the new mag in considerable fast instead of loading the bullets back in manually.

The reason it wasn't in the manual is because it was impractical and a hindrance to the soldier in the field.

In short, the Military said it was a retarded method of reloading.

The question is that it can be reloaded midclip, as in pull out the enbloc, and put in a new one. Yes, that will be in FH2. Now, as for topping off, that is limited by engines for all rifles that reload in 5+ clips (the sniper rifles are different, as they use single round "clips" to the game engine, I imagine. Duly, the point that a garend could indeed be topped off, is moot.

Actually, from what I have read in the internal forums, you probably won't be able to reload the garand mid-clip because if it could, then we would have to get rid of the trademark 'ping' sound when the cartridge is ejected. Just another thing that can't be done due to the limitations of the BF2 engine.

As for the technical reasoning behind that, I have no idea because I was not privy to the conversation and only got the information through several posts in the betatester forums.

Hopefully a dev reading this can explain?
