i like the system they had for battlefield vietnam. wonder if that can be coded into the bf2 game somehow without infringing on the bfv copyright
If they write there own code and don't "copy" it I'm pretty sure one would be allowed to mimic the idea. Ir they must have copytighten the basic idea behind it which would be a waste of money if even possible.
A) That would be a LOT of destroyable objects, can you say "LAG!" ?
There is a better support for that in Battlefield 2, though, right?
B) Tunnels too a long long time to dig, by the time you crossed 500 meters the battle would be long long over.
So decrease the time it takes to dig them. And/or have more engineers co-operate to do it.
I take what n0e says way too seriously

how about instead of tunnels you could dig trenches? seems like that would be more usefull. you would have potential trenches surrounding a flag. then you just have a few sappers entrench the flag. put in some barbed wire and BAM! you got yourself a fine defencive position.

It is said to handle it better but only slightly. Destroyable objects still should be used with care.

My example was asumming they had a whole team of engineers, if you are alone you would dig further then one or two meters, five max. In a group you can change shifts but you will still not be able to di a 500 meter tunnel in a day. Digging a tunnel during a battle would be quite useless unless you are engaged in a static trench war and that doesn't sound like ww2 to me. Only pre-made tunnels might be useful.
I'm afraid that techinically and historically there are no valid means to create such a system as suggest. Being able to dig trenches and fox holes might work but even that propably would lag and require lots of work to make it work.
atleast a foxhole, but most online battles don't last long enough to dig anything. being how the gameplay goes, everybody would know where the spot to dig would be and you would be killed many times trying to dig something that would end up pointless. if you could dig a hole anywhere, then that would be alright. a tunnel, forget about it. hell it would take many bodies to dig a trench in a day depending on how big it is (unless the devs wanna put a scoop on those nice suicidal-if-you-ride-them tractors :) ).
I dont like the idea of beeing able to dig tunnels right in the battlefield. Way to unrealistic, and make things sorta weird...
Rather make more tunnels on the maps themself, like the mine in Eastern Blitz. Some Jap-maps could benifit alot from this.

I like the idea of just being able to dig fox holes and slit trenches (common wealth version of fox holes) for defensive reasons. You wouldn't be able to dig them everywhere, just in a pre-coded area around the flag, say the equivelent of one grid on the map.
