schoolkidNotice that I cited Red Orchestra as only one of my examples to support my argument. I could also cite Point of Existence and BG42. I'm not making that argument. I was simply trying to refute your argument that "only 23 diehard fans" want no crosshairs.

LOL, you are doing it again, PoE has that dot, so can't be used as example of crosshairs removed and BG42 has even less players than RO

Got me there. But what do you think? Is the static crosshair the way of the future?

I have an example of crosshairs removed in a game with plenty of players. Vietcong. Vietcong is such a class game because its possible to play with zero hud and its still great fun. What happens in VC if you hip shoot then you get lots of recoil on just about all weapons, go into the iron sights and there you go you can aim no problem.

I do enjoy VC with minimal to no hud. Another suggestion on what is a good crosshair system is Operation Flashpoint. It always kept track of where your gun was pointed. Even when sprinting or resting on your shoulder. :)

I just thought of an idea. What if we actually had a combination of the three? Ok, walking around we have no crosshair, then when the guy stops he gets a dot, and finally he has the choice at any time to aim down the sights. This would stop all those spray and pray noobs, give the hand/eye coordination when stopped but still leave it inaccurate, and lastly we can have serious accuracy when aiming down the sights.

Thats a good idea, but I think it would be much easier to just leave the dot.

Have any of you fired a gun from the hip? Try it, you won't hit anything. I have shot a lot of guns in my life and cross hairs are horribly unrealistic . . . so is a dot. You are using iron sights, a scope, or you are just guessing. Brothers In Arms got it pretty damn close to perfect.

Yes, Myrddraal, I have fired a gun from the hip... but I've also fired a gun semi-accurately without aiming down the sights(ADS). It's hard to explain but it's do able and you'll see the particular stance with special forces etc who don't have time to ADS and don't want to lose peripheral vision but want better accuracy than shooting from the hip. Also, the accuracy shouldn't be 100% with the dot - probably like 50-75% accuracy with dot would be good. Special forces aren't trained to look down the sights btw. They're trained alot in eye hand coordination. Read Inside Delta Force if you don't believe me.
