Yeah. I know, you're going to say "LAG". Well.
I want smoke for infantry weapons and MGs. Dosen't have to be a lot. EOD did it very well for their BF1942 mod, it was effective and cool looking without lagging too badly.
Since FH already pushes the boundaries of playability on older comps, we really have nothing to lose by implementing it!
It would add to the atmosphere and immersiveness of the mod quite a bit. People are saying that muzzle flashes shouldn't be in, but something no one can deny is that any video of a WW2-era weapon firing tells us that they did in fact produce smoke (PPsH especially) and that it would look cool for FH.
I don't reccomend adding it for plane MGs or tank Co-Ax guns for lag reasons, but inf weapons should use it. It could be done very very well and make FH even greater.
Arty I am also requesting that artillery shells explode with tons of dirt and less shockwave effect when they hit ground. Videos from WW2 show this pretty accurately. Again, you can say "lag" but its not going to be that bad. DC does it with tank shells and arty with no lag.
Tracers I'm screwing with the tracers.dds file to see if I can't get a good-looking tracer. Galactic Conquest did wonders with it, so I don't think FH would be doing anything too difficult by changing these up a bit. The default BF1942 tracers are dorky and too large, don't look right, and are too common.
Shorter, brighter tracers less often would make it look a lot cooler, epecially with new smoke effects. If I get a good tracer effect down I'll post SS's and hopefully the devs will take notice.
German MGs need tracers once every 9 rounds, not once every 4. Their high ROF makes them look like lazer guns now.
Bullet Impact effects Should, IMO, be more environment-based. The standard under-10mm hit effect is a teensy little yellow ball that looks like a minurature mushroom cloud. If you hit a building, it just makes it vertical. DC did bullet effects right in DC Final. You hit the ground, it throws dirt around to the sides. Hit a building, debris falls down, not out.
Large-caliber guns would do this to a greater extent, and 20mm and up are pretty cool as they are now, but should throw up some dirt if hitting the ground (and deal splash damage! >_<)
The FH Tank shell hit effect is great. It is incredible, IMO. I love it. Lets bring the rest up to speed and perhaps alter the scale of the hit effect for 88mm guns to be larger then 37mm guns.. and we'd be perfect!
Oh, and while your at it you might want to toss in smoke greandes and flares for the Officer class.
Sounds good to me.
I would also like to see smoke dischargers on tanks. The tracers do look messed up and very small. I agree with the arty aswell.
I'll work on the dds in the next few days.
Flares couldn't work for well known reasons. Smoke grenades could though. I think guns shouldn't have smoke because the sheer amount would create problems, but arty should, and the arty blasts should be more significant while not looking like the original weird effect from BF

UMMMM......... Get the latest version of FH all this stuff is in save the tracers still need some fixing.
No, they're not. Most artillery, heavy HE rounds, still use the original BF effect while tank rounds use the new FH effect. Smoke Grenades aren't in FH at all.
Battlefield Vietnam upped the tracer effect quality by a ton. It's a lot shorter and has more mass to it. It also only releases every so often so that it's not just a constant stream.

Artillery definately has it's own custom effect which looks (sort of) like a much bigger version of a tank shell hitting the ground.
