Every time I get into the German 88 AA/T gun with the switch to go from AA rounds to AT hole punchers I find myself wishing there was an option to fire smoke rounds from those guns that were able to fire them. A good arty barage of smoke would be a fine thing indeed.:smokin: Not to mention the use of smoke on the battlefield probably came just shortly after we found out how to toast meat so it would add to the historacle & realism aspects of the game tremendously. There was a LOT of smoke used in WW2 to disguise armored/infantry movement & it would be the finishing touch to this MOD. Smoke generators on ships. Didnt some tanks have smoke grenade canisters? Adding a smoke grenade to the officer & assault class mabey?

Smoke rounds from the mortars?

Just an idea.

Hmm, how badly would this mess with people playing, though? Just thinking of CS, and how some people used to time out because of smoke effects:p

Smoke barrages would be a good thing if it didn't have a lag effect on the server. Imagine a artillery barrage of smoke rounds preceding a infantry / armoured assault, one word, awesome.

I suppose the smoke could be low-detail. It'd clash with the high-polygon models, but it'd be worth it, if you ask me.

Excuse my ignorance. If 6+ assault soldiers in BF2 threw their smoke grenades at the same time, this would cause massive lag? And perhaps kick people? I didn't know. I see that an artillery barrage of smoke would be huge and quite possibly lag, but the smoke ejected from the BF2 tanks doesn't seem to lag? ... Or does it? ..hmm

Yes. On my comp it does, i get a drop of fps by about 5 so a lot of the time on Karkand I'm running at 15-20fps.

There doesnt need to be any lag at all, it all depends on how it's made, simple as that. :)

A real good idea if it could be implemented without lag. So if an arty piece could either shoot AP or HE a third type could be added?

Thanks, I got caught doing it enough its now second nature to think of these things.

I wont even pretend to know the first thing about smoke causing lag but if it can be worked around I fervently hope someone does so. There are already smoke nades on one of the latest maps, cretan village I believe, & 3 or 4 peeps tossing 3 smokenades each didnt lag me out & my puter is a POS. While that is minimal to what an arty piece would generate its the only thing I have to go by.

Ill see your 15FPS & lower the bid by 3FPS.
