Last night I played Midway on a server and found myself defending the northmost flag with my Gato submarine... Imagine my surprise, when a brave soul in a landing craft charged me head on in a landing craft, with the HMG flaring and he shot me full of holes! In other words, in little less than ten seconds, the .50 cal on the landing craft drained my submarine of 2/3rds of health!!! So, my question is: Is this deliberate? Because, while I won't go as far as claiming to be an authority on submarines, I have a hard time believing that a weapon of that caliber would tear open a submarine.
ya, personally i believ they need 2 be stronger and the supposed aa guns on it need 2 be a bit tougher
The subs hull is made of strong welded steel to survive the crushing depths. A .50 cal should chew up anyone topside but it should not have damaged the sub itself.
Speaking of subs, firstly they should have more "passenger" spots inside. A submarine with a flak gunner protecting you from planes is great.... but what is that flak gunner to do when the sub dives underwater? Also, how the hell do you reload a sub? And speaking of landing crafts. I seen a couple of times when a landing craft would actually charge the submarine and get a kill for it :wtf:
if u r underwater, you can swith to the gunner side, like the .50 or the cannon or watever, and u wont die..u can see underwater...should fix that 2
I actually think that it is the landing craft's themselfs that are over powered/armored. I mean 20mm's don't do jack to them, It's really annoying that a landing craft has nothing to fear from a Jap PT boat with it's 20mm.
you are thinking of the "higgins" boat. they were made of wood (exept the steel ramp). in case you havent noticed, WOOD FLOATS!!!!!:eek: i think the .50 cal damage was put in to allow planes to strafe up subs. the idea about sub gunner positions is a good idea (would help with the deck gun "spaz outs"). also, has anyone noticed that it is impossible to exit the sub and get in the AA guns? pisses me off

According to my tests, a landing craft mounted MG can take down the submarine with app. 1½ magazine of concentrated fire... Let's hope a correction of that particular problem makes it into the next version? :naughty:
