Lately I'm wondering bout the supression effect. As for my taste it has been toned down too much, well it is better than it was before but.. (yes there always is a "but") I think devs missed that point of perfect balance between supression and annoyance. Now often happens that rifles wins with smgs in close quaters (too often if you ask me). I score a hit with my tommy and keep spraying but that gerry always has iron nerves and keeps it cool to perfectly shoot me. And when I am on the reciveing end of fight it sesms that direct fire has not much effect on your vision, not until your badly injured or dead...

Maybe it's just me but I think that devs should work on supression effect a bit more in the upcoming patch.

Think all weapons should suppress... but the problem is if it is possible to have different lengths of suppression effect for different types of weapons. While explosives and such still create the tinnitus effect, I think the handheld weapons and machineguns should deliver different sorts of suppressions.

Rifle should be a quick snap suppression, something that tells you right away you are being shot at if you happen to miss the whip-slash sounds of the flying bullets. Something like a flinch of an eye.

Submachineguns should bring a different length to it aswell depending on range they are fired from. Fire a SMG from far away shouldnt inflict any sort of effect, while close up it should give you mild effects.

Machineguns on the other hand should bring the large effect on long ranges and harsh on closer ranges, but absolutely nothing at face to face.

But I doubt this is possible with the engine we are dealing with.

I got a totally different viewpoint. I don't like the suppression effects. I'm not going to annoy you with the details. Suppression was always something, I believe is supposed to be in your head. When the bullets strike inches from me, I duck my head in front of the PC. When an arti barrage strikes and forces me to run away, hiding in a freakin foxhole or between some sandbags I'm watching the barrage and say things like "oh my god, oh my god" to myself. Thats when I almost crouch under the table. And I do that certain look upwards to the sky, when you do not know whether I'm praying to god or try to see whether the next shell will come down on me.

I don't recall exactly, but I think I ran Forgotten Hope 0.6 on a GeForce 2 with DirectX7 support only. In those days some independent modder developed a system to make impressive explosions on DirectX7 that was implemented into the game. Basically it was just a brown colored wall with several raw edges, that caused an intense cloud of dust around the place where the round of a tank had striked. This almost caused you to not even see your own hand in front of you. And you never dared to make a single step out of your foxhole or wherever you'd found cover. Without any blur on your screen. You just sat there and prayed for the tank not to get you. I miss those days.

Unfortunately I dont got any screenshots anymore, nor can I link to the news when the mod was announced. But, it was used by the devs for one version of FH anyway. So I expect them to know what I am talking about.

thanks to the bf2 engine , you cant have more than one supression effect .

supression is based on FPS , if you have low FPS , the supression efect will last longer , if you have high fps , the supression will not supress you (since it will only last a couple of seconds or even less).

I don't understand why it's realistic to make someone's vision go blurry because a bullet was fired near them.

Not that I claim that 'honor' of having been shot at, but I imagine even if one's vision does not 'blur', one's awareness shrinks out of fear and the body can only think of getting to safety - hence why our rational minds have to deal with 'blurriness'.

Any servicement here, feel free to correct me.

sure, there is no better way to implement fear in the game IMO.
