Ok so i built a new computer about a month ago, it only cost 400 but it still got some pretty sweet stuff. Its running on a P4 533 w/ hyper threading at 6.66 ghz with a soyo dragon ultra motherboard, and a nvdea Gforce 5200 128mb. Ive got 512 megs of ddr 3200 and a crappy hard drive. the HD is only 40 gigs and only runs at 5200 rpms. The problem is the graphics are mediocre, they shouldnt be, and i have an extremely slow startup time even after running bootvis and disk keeper pro. I defrag my hard drive about every other day, everything i do is fast, but still slugish for this kind of computer. the graphics card does extremely mediocre on 3d mark 2003. the processor does well on si soft sandra and other stress testers. I have narrowed it down to 2 things I think it is A) My hardrive, i need a better one, ill take care of that in a couple of weeks, im putting in a raid 0 array, or B) the graphics card may only be 4x i dont know but it could be. I think it is these things, but if you have experience please help me
Ok, try this. You might need to pitch in some more cash. 1) Throw away the GeForce FX 5200. For $99, you can get a Radeon 9600 Pro, which delivers the best bang for buck. That solves your graphics. 2) Your HD shouldn't be lagging the system as you explain, but it is always better to upgrade. Prefer 7200 rpm. And why do a raid 0 with only one HD? I may be stupid, i don't see the logic in that. 3) Take it easy on the Defrag if you plan to have that HD for more than 6 months. OH YEAH! Run msconfig to check what apps are starting with windows, and check your services also. Windows comes with way too many services that an average user would never need. But don't uncheck anything unless you are absolutely positive you know what it is for.
1-if your grafx card is a gFFX then it is 8X agp. all FX cards are 8X. 2-definatly upgrade to 7200rrpm HD 3-go here and learn about windows services, to speed up general performance and bootup time http://www.blackviper.com wondering were you got tthat 6.66 ghz P4?
i ahve a question? how the hell did you get a 533 bus p4 to run at 6.66 ghz??? it is imposible! on a 533 mhz bus the max is 2.4. LOL!
No it's not. I've used a 1.3 Tulitan (P3) oc'd to 9.5 GHz.
uh no you didnt
livn4metal, congrats with your firstname.lastname@example.org. You are currently the nr.1 overclocker in the WORLD. Please post results from any clockprogram.
that was over two years ago, i'll ask my uncle because he knows the guy well. I'll try to get some concrete info for you guys. All I can tell you is that at the lan party, that cpu ran for about 5 hours straight, without any errors. How he did it? I have no freakin idea.
I take what n0e says way too seriously
