These are some maps from Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, an aging game. Although MoHAA's graphics can no longer keep up with today's standards, their maps were VERY beautiful and managed to capture the WWII feel very well. It's a delight to go back and play MoHAA, especially the urban levels, from beautiful towns in France to Christmas-esque snowcovered villages of Germany, bringing feelings of nostalgia. I was wondering if it would be possible for Forgotten Hope to recreate settings such as these, so that they really look like villages and not a random collection of buildings thrown together with no roads, streetlights, etc. When Battlefield 1942 was released, I was disappointed that they didn't have that certain grand feeling that MoHAA's maps (and Call of Duty's maps as well) had. While Forgotten Hope has made vast improvements, it would be nice to see more, such as new buildings, better organized villages, etc.
No, the two games use completely different engines. One engine allowing for 60 players to play on huge open maps with multiple vehicles, but at the expense of well made interiors/dense exteriors. Another engine proccessing the interior/exterior very well, but limited in it's functionality.
Just a thought. Since BF2 is planning on sizing their maps for three sizes, small (16), medium (32), and large (64), would it be possible for Forgotten Hope to make maps especially designed for a certain mode, such as a village map designed for 16 players but really looks like a real village? I mean, if Call of Duty can fit 32 players in a beautiful French village, could it be possible with just 16 players in Battlefield 2?
i mentioned making either direct or approxmate clones of some of the better RTCW/ET, MOHAAA, or even DoD maps in a thread a while back. Some of the rtcw/et maps were espcially suited because they could be played with upwards of 50+people (more then are on many bf servers) and in some cases involved vehicels too, . THe main use though, would be for smaller servers that have a hard time making use of a large map. The idea wan't very well recieved though, largely on the basis of expected criticisms. DCR is working on doing a simialr thing thouhg- using bf for a smaller infantry map with only limted or no vehciles so we shall see what happens with it. Personally, I think it works out fine as BF already has CQB maps that people like so recruiting other similar CQB maps would work well.
