Is it me or the tank ammo seems a bit underpowered?
You fire a 50 mm ap shot for 300 meters and you can see the muzzle droping in the air. it gets so frustrating trying to hit a tank.
Seems like everyone can fire at me, but for me its a hell to get a well placed tank shot.
Actually, if anything the tank shells are overpowered. I don't think they have accounted for shells losing velocity over extended ranges. Hence, the Grant fires a 75 mm shell across the map of Aberdeen and destroys a PzIII with one hit to the front.
The Germans did not have uber-tanks during this part of the war. FH2 doesn't have an accurately represented tank sighting system, you will have to aim above an enemy tank to hit it at long range (usually max draw distance will be at the bottom of the triangle on the 50 mm) Even then you will often times need more then one shot. The nature of desert warfare, and the ease at which all tanks can destroy each other with relative ease makes getting the first shot key to victory.
IMHO to be a master tanker in Africa is a much more respectable then to rape Shermans with a King Tiger whilst essentially invincible. In maps like Aberdeen you can't just roll on to the top of an exposed hill and plink targets, the tank you are in will not survive any type of extended "slug fest" It really truly is about situational awareness.

Tank shells do less damage over long distances, all other weapons also do !
the m3 75 mm gun could penetrate more than the 50mm armor on a panzer III on all visible distances, so getting 1 shot killed by this is correct. While the 50mm gun on the panzer III had a hard time penetrating front armor on grant/sherman.
@ assassino: yes tank shells drop, guns have more drop (panzer IV F1) other less (panzer IVF2), you have to get a feeling for each type of gun, and "guess" the right hight for your shoot. Also different ammo types have different flight curves HE ammo has much more drop then AP and spezial AP ammo like HEAT or panzergranate 40 fly more straight then normal AP. On aberdeen i mastered the panzer IV F1 HEAT ammo, i can shoot very accurate with the short barrel gun and hit on distances almost up to viewdistance, it takes alot of practice but once you got it (and a commader gives you suply drop to refresh your small stock of only 8 HEAT rounds) the panzer IV F1 is a beast on that map.
Whats really the view distance in FH2? 300m, 500m or what? In RO you have those maps where view distance is like 3000m and there you can feel the tank ammo loosing effectiveness because of the über long ranges. In FH2 I've yet to see any tank loosing effectiveness when firing longer ranges.
EDIT: Hmm now that I think again maybe when using Crusader/Matilda/Valentine you really loose penetration when shooting in long ranges as those 2-pounders seem to need countless hits to take down anything better than Pz2 but when closer to enemy it seems easier.

The 2pdr is a bit weird, I think. It will not kill in one hit to rear armor of a Pz4D when RIGHT ON TOP of it. I don't think that's right.
Also, it's pointless and useless at long range, moreso then the U.S. 37mm on the Grant and Honey, though they are similar rounds.
Well Honey's 37mm seems more powerful than 2-pounder to me or I'm just imaging things again... FH2 new 2-pounders were real shock to as I was used to kill something with them in FH1. No it needs skill to kill with them. I'm really looking forward to see how Mare Nostrum mod for RO models them. :)
I just looked into the files of 2pdr and 37mm: The 2pdr is noticably stronger, and the damage decrease over range is the same.
Oh so I'm just cracy. Good to have some confirmation.
How big is the damage decrease over range? Or is it not noticable because view distances in FH2 are so small? At least Grant or Pz4F2 won't lose any penetration over range or the loss is so small that it won't count (I know they had way better guns than rest of the tanks now in FH2 besides 6pdr crusader). But as Anlushac said in other shouldn't Grant lose more damage over range because its gun was not known for its high velocity?
By the way is there any easy way that does not require that I'm rocket scientist to look into these files from FH2? I'm rather interested in things like these but I don't have a clue about where to look or how to open them even if I knew their location. :)
