No this thread isn't about where the crosshair went, I was just thinking, would be possible for when you are not looking through the tank sights i.e. driving, not shooting, if it would be possible to switch the view point from the turret cupola to the driver's window or periscope, so that when the turet is turned your view doesn't follow it until you switch to the tank sights by pressing f9.
I like this, I was about to suggest this too, you beat me though...
If possible it sounds good. If not, dosn´t matter much...
Neat idea, but the way it is now, you kind of have the functionality of a real tank (ie. can look in other directions while driving, like you had a commander for the tank.)
But what about, instead, trading the default view for a view from the commander's cupola? This, I think, would give a better illusion of commanding the tank.
dont thin kits possible the tank site is just a cockpit like in the planes (nosecam)
(sorry for reviving my own thread) but you've no doubt noticed that when you're in a plane and you press f9 for the nosecam you havae a sligfhtly different POV, down and forward a bit (no it's not just zoomed in) so it would be nice if this could be applied to tanks.
Although I can do without the driver/gunner separation, I do like the zoomed in sights in the DCR main battle tanks. Might be interesting if it was possible to shift the F9 view over to something like that. Keep the nice aiming sights that you have now, but also zoom it in, if different viewpoints are possible. Did tanks in that era have any sort of magnification optics, or was it the job of the commander to scope things out with his binocs?
WW2 tanks did have magnified optics, early war from 1.5x to 3.5x (depending on tank model, French and German optics tended to be better than British or Russian. Later on, I think the max was about 7x for German TD's.
I like the idea alot! I Notice one problem though, they would have to use the sniper rifle 'zooming' code as if they used the code for the nose cam in the plane, it could mean that tanks would be able to 'zoom' through objects. This is because the POV would be on the otherside of the object....just a comment, but maybe i'm talking crap.
if you try the EoD cobra you'll notice that the secondary position has zoomed in the view. if you're close to an object you won't see through it - it will simply fill the entire screen.
