Since playing FH2 there's been only one single thing that I'm not in love with. That's the tanks. My issue with the tanks actually has nothing to do with performance, or round velocity or penetration values, you know the usual things people pick apart. It has more to do with my suspension of disbelief. The armor this time around seems to not be very heavy. At least the impression of driving a multi-ton armored vehicle on treads isn't conveyed to me. In addition to that and perhaps a lending problem is the speed of the tanks. The top speed isn't something that seems out of place, but the speed to which top speed is reached from a total stop. Also I've noticed that I take some damage to the tanks when just driving across the desert and I go over sand dunes. I've also rolled and flipped these things like they're Jeeps driving across some maps. Again the impression of weight and tonnage isn't there. Lastly, sound effects. They're not there. The impression of size and mass can also be conveyed through sound. The engines on these things should sound like they're gurgling and churning out the horsepower that they really are. Also before in FH1 I remember hearing loud bangs against the hull of a tank when it was hit, whether it did damage or deflected. In FH2 I don't hear anything that compares. Sound effects are a huge contributor to suspension of disbelief when what you hear matches what you see and experience on screen. My $.02. Thanks. I agree with you, also when tanks are destroyed they tend to bounce a bit, especially on a slope. Which completely destroys the idea of a heavy tank.

But i am guessing the biggest problem here is yet again the BF2 engine, however maybe some improvements are possible.

True, the speed boost should be slower but the bf2 engine probably will say no.

Well I'm back at my own thread a week later because I recently downloaded and played Frontlines. Now any and all comments about that mod versus this one aside, the one thing the mod does well is the conveyance of weight in vehicles. I've been trying to put my finger on how and why and maybe it boils down to engine sounds/gear changes or vehicle speeds. Or a combination of both. Regardless, I like it.

I'll have to agree with Zehnder on this one, might as well add my 2 cents concerning tanks in this topic instead of starting a new one:

The tanks (and movable PaK) almost _never_ stand still unles they are on 100% flat terrain. I know it's supposed to slide a bit down when on a heavy slope and depending how the tank tracks are positioned on the slope, but not like this. Even if the terrain is almost flat, the tank or PaK continually inches away messing up the aim, it's really annoying and I don't recall having it this bad in FH either.

this hast been tweaked alot, you should have seen the first betas i played

the problem is once again engine based and cant be done much the effect isnt really that big but due to the high zoom tanks and AT-guns have it seems much bigger than it is. It is annoying but it is playable, everyone has to cope with it. sad but true :bawl:

btw i think coders are still trying to tweak this some more but right now there are other things to do that have higher priority

IIRC the BGF mod has slower acceleration working, so it should be doable. It might just be the slower top speed that gives this impression, though.

the engine isn really that bad i guess, mostly its those hard coded limitation, and lack of stuff that was possible in bf42 that was somehow stripped in bf2 ....
