Just wondering if we will ever see the Nahverteidigungswaffe (Close Defense Weapon) incorporated into FH? The Nahverteidigungswaffe was mounted on the Tiger I, Panther, Jagd Panther, Tiger II, Jagdtiger, Sturmtiger, StuG III, Pzkpfw IV and other late war German Armored Fighting Vehicles. From what I could find, they not only fired of smoke grenades but other Anti-personal weapons like "S"mines. Would make a great deterent for those pesky engineers who like to plant satchels on the engine covers. The first picture shows an S-Mine discharger on the side of a Tiger of the SS Panzerdivision Das Reich. The turret is traversed to the rear leaving the escape hatch facing the discharger. In the normal arrangement of 5, the dischargers were mounted at the 4 corners and one on the left side of the hull where there was only a pistol port and not a hatch. The middle picture is of the interior of the Tiger I (late) at Saumur (The French Armor Museum). It shows the right rear turret escape hatch and the Nahverteidigungswaffe. Third picture shows the smoke discharge system as mounted on the Tiger I (Ausf E) from August 1942.
I think that's a great idea. Battlegroup42 has it in their KingTiger, operated by the top machinegunner. That's exactly how I'd like to see it implemented in FH too. Would make the AA-machinegunner position a bit more useful.
I don't know how realistic this is, but if I remember correctly, in Close Combat they fired fragmentation grenades against infantry. That would make those pesky engineers think twice before satcheling my Tiger (as if the satchel charges do any damage against it anyway..).
Well in that case maybe the top MG position is not the best place to use the Nahkampfwaffe since your life expectensy up there is about 1 second... But otherwise, a good idea...
Allow the AA gunner to button up. That is to say, get fully inside the tank where those sniping loosers wont take potshots at you.
I take what n0e says way too seriously

I don't really know about this, but it coudl be cool. And now we're talking about tanks anyway, maybe we could make another position on every tank for a tankcommander. You could only let his head come out of the tank and let it work like the on on the Stug. Then when in combat, the tankcommander could just put his head inside the tank with a button like S or W (from the Flak 88), if that's possible. And maybe there could be a place for some fixer-guy, like there is the R2-D2 in Galactic Conquest, who could do slight fixes. That could end the enemies stealing ur tank, or killing u when you're healing your tank.
I have been thinking about including this for some time, maybe will do that. @Green: anything else you want, like unlimited ammo, more health, godmode? :)
Battle of the Bulge, any random public server. Moron of the day on the allied team sneaks into the axis base and sneaks off with the Royal Tiger... He then drives off to the base spawn, parks next to an ammo box and repeatedly clicks the release mechanism for the nahverteidigungssystem. End result: Player: Score: Kills: Deaths: Ping: Moron 50 50 0 180 hQ.Ghost 0 0 50 28 Leave the tanks as they are, I say... As it is right now, no tanker in his right mind would go anywhere close to enemy positions without infantry backup, and thats the way it should be in my opinion.
Yes, lets get a small prancing elf that hides in your tank and, on order, jumps out and repairs your ubertank in battle! Of course, he can't be killed...
Nahverteidigungswaffe would be about as effective as a handgrenade, means that every real AT weapon has way more range, it would only affect the satchel guys, and those should stay away from KTs anyway.
