'By jove, Meadow posting a suggestion forum? We haven't seen that since the summer of 2006!' I hear you cry. Well, yes, you're right, because I don't really see the point of suggesting vehicles and equipment, because thanks to Taranov et cetera the devs of course know about all of them, and I feel the gameplay in FH2 is fine as it is.

However, I am about to apparently break the first rule by suggesting a piece of quite common equipment - not because I don't think the devs know about it, but because I'd like to start a discussion of its viability within FH2 and present what I see as the pros of adding it in.

I present the Universal Carrier with monopod-mounted Vickers .303!

The reason for adding this, in my mind, is to give the Brits some sort of mobile gun platform that's sturdy and can lay down constant suppressive fire - perhaps suitable for a squad leader to man the gun on while his squad spawn on him and move up (the number of seats in the vehicle would naturally be reduced).

This would also allow the beautifully rendered and coded Vickers .303 to be used a lot more than it is now - as a tripod mounted static it really has quite limited use. Having a mobile gun platform to use it on would be great. It would also counter the SkdFz 251's raised MG34s that are, at present, a far more effective mobile method of suppression for infantry than the Bren carrier's low-down and low-ammo Bren gun.

I am aware that the Chevy mounts a Vickers like this - but it has low health and can be shot up from a distance, more so than the sturdy Universal Carrier. It also looks a bit strange on the rare occasions that they are used as gun platforms to see LRDG special forces vehicles being used to suppress positions by bog-standard infantry.

Finally, I am in no rush to see this added, as I am aware of the priorities the dev team has at the moment and the lack of manpower, however I do see this as a more feasibly do-able suggestion than some more complex vehicles that are being requested - it is a fusion of two existing models. I shan't put my foot in it by saying 'it would only take 30 minutes max lol' or some nonsense, but it does stand to reason that the whole process, barring the coding, would not take as long as making a new model from scratch.

This would be a great addition for 2.15, particularly with the upcoming infantry-focused maps, but to be honest it'd be great to see it any time the devs can get round to it.

Thanks for reading.

I'd certainly use one. Obviously, a 'vickers carrier' would have to be quite uncommon in placement on maps to stop it from being abused (i.e. like several being driven into a base and raping spawning infantry).

I would also like to see universal carriers armed with boys rifles and (in normandy) PIATs, for some more mobile ligt AT support.

A vickers on the back, a bren in the gun port and another bren on the side of the bren. Yeah, I wouldnt mind seeing it happen, even tho I'd much rather trade more passenger seats to carriers for this idea. But yeah, a PTRS to the gun port when eastern front comes, that would be dreamy!

I like the idea! It will be much more simple to kill the gunner since he won't be so covered as the bren gun guy (they annoy me the most) =p.

The Vickers .303" on the MMG Carrier was either fited in the front hull or on a mount in the rear compartment, no secondary armament was carried. If it was to be included in FH2 the MMG Carrier should carry no passengers, just the driver and gunner. Some Universal Carriers in Normandy were armed with pintle-mounted Browning M2 .50" HMGs on a pintle mount at the front of the vehicle, as can be seen from this photo of some of the carnage at Villers-Bocage. britwrecks2.jpg

Thanks for the info, Silian. I think it might be reasonable to include one passenger spot in addition to the Vickers gunner, as the picture at the top shows there was enough room for four men when the gun was not in use. It would also increase the longevity of the vehicle's use if a hand-held Bren gunner could sit in a passenger position next to the Vickers and cover the rear.
