don't know if this was mentioned before, but i wonder if the devs will change the view distance. it seems that it would not be that hard work and it also seems to be that it won't cause more lag.

according to their forums, project reality is currently working on that for their next release.

i think it would be an great addition, especially in the african campaign :eek:

Take a look again at the Mersa Matruh update if you already haven't and tell me whats wrong with the view distance in the screenshots. It appears to me the devs have already increased the view distance going by those, something I mentioned at the time.

Well, since view distance is the factor that is determining the lag on a map, ofcourse it also creates more the longer you see... every object, effect and soldier that you "see" is rendered by your graphcard, so in reality, every meter you set the view longer, on any map, in any game, will put more pressure to your machine...

Ofcourse some maps with few objects can have longer view, but i rather have rich detailed maps with medium view, than empty boring maps with long view... (that's one of the reasons I prefer Fh to vanilla....)

Funny, I was just looking at the Stuka shot in that and thinking, "Wow, I wonder if that is the viewing distance in the game."

For "n" time, view distance is decided in a map per map basis, mersa matruh has 600, a common distance in the desert FH1 maps, but other maps could need less view distance for performance sake.

View distance is important to have performance under control and nice graphics, don't expect 1-2 Km distance views, at least in this century, in next one maybe Skynet can review our old maps and increase it, to train their terminators.

Is it possible for the devs to make it so only the mappers can determine the view distance on their maps, and not so people with their SLI 8800GTXs 4GB RAM 348971258903745ghzoverclocked 1337-machines can go into their settings and put a 10,000 meter view distance?
